I found my metalworks overseer working the farm, despite a filter that should have prevented it. When I added a job to the metalworks, she immediately changed tasks... And no one picked up the farm work, particularly not the overseer whose filters blocked out everything but farming and hauling. Crops died until I unfiltered my networks overseer. She promptly started tending my fields. It seems like she 'locked' the farming job while she was busy at the forge.
If you leave all the enabled/disabled settings for your workcrews alone, do you still encounter these sorts of problems?
That shouldn't happen! I think the filter="farming" tag was missing on certain farm jobs which... threw things off. This is all fixed for 41E (plus, spoiler alert, farming is getting a crazy balance overhaul).
It needs it as at the moment it seems better to just farm wheat and forage/hunt everything else for the first few game weeks and not bother with the other food crops until population starts to strip all the close forgeable food. It's so much quicker to forage/hunt than farm and the beetle rampage make anything but very widely dispersed farms a bit of a lottery.
Well it looks like farming is now well borked as got a colony in 41E that is just farms and a kitchen and they are set to do nothing but grow and cook and they are eating raw food as nothing can be cooked fast enough to feed the colony. Going to do some experimenting with just farms and kitchens and see if a colony is actually able to survive with this rather strange 1 food for 1 meal build. Why bother cooking it if you still only get 1 meal? I know the nutrition and happiness value might be lower with uncooked food but this just makes the game a farming sim.
