base 1.1.jpg Hello i was wondering if there exists a way to zoom out more than scroll allows, I wanted to take a screenshot of the full colony and had to joint four pics to get all in.. i know I use too much space for buildings, but i like how it looks:D

Building as walls makes me cringe :p

I hope we'll have wall/fences soon ingame, gabions can be a bit expensive

I like using the bunkhouses now, since they have this nice "wall of rough logs" look which is perfect.

Gabions are annoying... I can just remove sections of wall and place sections of wall easily, but gabions are pretty fussy..

I have a feeling that once flammable buildings are implemented, using them as walls will be far less desirable.:)

Not to mention having them all connected...

You'll be surprised. But it's a matter of figuring out the new mechanics and adjusting to a better strategy. As always, that'll be good fun too.

I can't give you a new optimal solution without having the new mechanics though, so speculating is sort of silly.

I will point out though, that's it's easier to spread out little specialized shacks in a given area rather than the larger buildings many people like building.

Plus we don't really know how fire will behave with buildings. I assumed it might spread fairly rapidly as it does in dense forests now, quickly consuming long, or tightly packed buildings. But the devs may tone it down in some way.

If anything, one would worry about farms which can contain like 7x13 plants in a 14x14 area and depending on the heat radiation formula could simply act like a nuke.

It does depend somewhat on the speed of heat radiation & ignition but uh yeah.

If you take a look at the gaps in their outer (barracks) wall though, if fire is jumping across that then it's going to be the case that only small shacks really spread out will be safe. Which is rather extreme.

Oh flammable buildings sounds fun! I haven't been around for some time so i am not up to date, does fire means they will implement water, like wells, deposits and of course pipes? i'd like that.

bunkhouses look appropiate as colonial walls, though I like the "forbidden city walls"look I got with barracks.

Aside, concerning my question, i guess the answer is no, i hoped some console code would allow me:(

There are wells in the game files, and pipes are a given. Not sure if you'll be able to use these to douse a fire

    (Wait. We have wells?)

What would work well is the interior wall being the red barracks (or maybe blue or white etc, pick a color that works and use that building) and then use bunkhouse etc for a wider outer wall.

Which might be useful if a single closed wall is too troublesome, this way you sort of put various obstacles out to slow an enemy.

(i need to check but im pretty sure i saw something like that in the game files some times ago, it might have been me dreaming)

Couldnt enemies shoot through houses ?

So do your soldiers, but if your guys are on one side of the colony it helps if the enemies are slowed down from approaching by outlying walls.maze for obvious reasons.
