EDIT: I'll try to get a save file up within the hour

EDIT EDIT: Auto save is on the stairs on my way up, which appears to be before the level is generated. So I don't know for sure if that room is still generated, and my save file is likely not going to help in debugging it (assuming that this is not a local issue).

    -----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Hiya! Hate for my first post on the forums to be a bug rapport, but here goes...

Made it down to DL 12 on my newest char, I had only encountered a few minor bugs, nothing game breaking or anything that hadn't been reported though. Suddenly I find myself in a room with a ton of mustache-something-leaguers (I forget their exact name), and in the text I see something along the lines of "having stolen their most sacred treasure, the entire guild of mustaches appears!"
I get to work killing them off, but at the start of every turn that same text pops again. I assumed that it was a reminder of sorts, or perhaps just some bugged text, but I'm not so sure about that anymore. I keep killing them off, but slowly my entire screen is filled with more mustache-guys -- as in: there was not a single unoccupied tile in sight, except for when I knocked back/killed some of them, though that place was usually filled up by another 'stache in about 2 turns (depending on whether or not they were messing up in their pathing).

Needless to say, I got a bit worried at this point. My HP was fine, and while I had seen this many monsters before (*cough* monster zoo's *cough*), it felt a bit off... aaaaaand then it crashed. Now the interesting part was that it wasn't Dungeons of Dredmor, per se -- that caused the crash. During the early 1.08 hours I experienced quite a bit of crashes since I use windows 7 and play via Steam, but this time I didn't get the "dungeons of dredmor.exe has stopped responding"-screen, instead I got a popup that said something about dungeons of dredmor.exe making a faulty/illegal/impossible request to Microsoft .NET 3.5/Microsoft Visual [something, I believe it was either .NET or C/C++, can't remember which unfortunatly] AND had caused the application -- which I assume means dredmor -- to terminate.

I was kinda shocked since this was my first GR/permdeath char to get this far, and no autosaves means I have to go back to 4-5 hours ago T.T That's kind of a bummer of course, but lesson learned; don't play for 4-5 hours without taking a break AND exiting and saving every now and then ;)

I was kinda hesitant to post this here as I have so little information about this bug, but I figured I might at least inform you guys about it. I did crawl around both visual c++/.NET, Steam and dungeons of dredmor for logs and/or dumps but I've had no luck so far I'm afraid. No luck in AppData\Roaming or temp folders there either.

I'm obviously not gonna go whine that you have to fix this and give me 4 hours of my youth back since I can't provide any logs of or savefiles close to where the crash happened, I just wanted to put the word out, hopefully this doesn't happen to anyone else, and if it does, hopefully it happens to someone who can provide documentation for it ^^

On a more positive (albeit unrelated to the topic) note I'm really happy with the DLC overall, and when you've hammered out the few bugs in a week or two it'll be absolutely amazing! :) I really appreciate the amount of effort you've put into it, especially considering that you're maintaining a community, adding content and patching Dredmor while working on other project(s?) at the same time. And I believe you're like 3 or 4 people doing all this? That's pretty awesome.

    Thanks for your hard work!

Have you tried right-clicking the game on Steam under Properties, then Local Files, and Verify Local Game Cache?

Just a note: No autosave ? It should make one every time you go down to a new floor. Try loading your last autosave even if it shows an old floor image, the save's image seems to be off sometimes.

@borodin Yup, verified straight after the crash = All files successfully validated. Guess I should've mentioned that in the OP, but thanks anyway.

and @brobbeh, yeah, that might've been a poor choice of words along with some poetic exaggeration on my part. There was an autosave, and the image showed the snow-themed level so I didn't even bother loading it up... turns out I only have to tackle DL11 and it's hueg zoo again, so I guess that only puts me back by 1 hour of my youth. Don't know that I liked my build enough to clear that level again though :p I think I'm gonna leave unarmed/archery/tinkering/MoA/Berserker rage/shields/burglary in it's corner for now. (I don't know how I figured that that would make a fun build in the first place). Thanks for the info about the save image being of sometimes though, that makes going back to this char later on a possibility :)

    Welcome !
At least that allows you to send the save to the devs to check about that bug.

Seems like auto-save is done before the level is generated, so I doubt my save file would help :( Assuming that this isn't just my computer bullying me, I'd guess the bug is in either the code for the room or the spawn mechanic of the 'staches, in which case I think the devs can look at from their end... Obviously I'm just guessing though, so I could very well be wrong there, plus I imagine they already have their hands full with work and also with the holidays coming up soon ^^

Just a tip, Uberchests and, I believe, also Zoos will likely bug out if you "quit-save" mid level. As in, Uberchests you haven't yet unlocked on that level will no longer unlock and zoos you've started clearing will not reward you once cleared.

Well you also musnt go to another floor or enter a shop ( for zoos). Lots of little secret rules to escape the bugs...

I too experienced the infinite mustache overload. About five minutes before I started this post.

What happened for me was the mustache room was opened, mustaches appeared, etc.

I kept slaughtering mustaches to little effect. They just kept coming. I looked over and noticed what appeared to be at least five of the things dancing in the same square. I decide to stop swinging and watch the log.

"The entire Mustache Fighting League appears as a result of you plundering their most sacred treasures!" or something along those lines.
And then again three lines later.
    And again.
    And again.
    And again.

I decide to stand still and let it catch up.

I lost count of the number of times that scrolled by before the text caught up. Then I swung, watched, and there it was again. I just hit space to let the game run without my actions and it showed up three more times. Then it crashed.

Rather insidious tactic by those mustache demons.

As soon as I can figure out how to do so I will upload a save just outside the room where the crash happened.

NOTE: Found the chamber, duplicated the bug. Reloaded, saved just outside the chamber, tested on more time by opening door and running away. Stopped counting after the 25th repeat of the line, killed the process to exit without saving. Memory usage at time of forced quit was over 1gb.

SECOND NOTE: Save is in link http://www.2shared.com/file/uwivnOnd/Sniper-tan.html (for some reason it won't let me upload the .sav as a valid file type). Pick the lock, step inside, and prepare for mustachealanche.

And they'll be uploading this hotfix when? I just ran another test and it bugged out again.
