On-Hit Effects

    So, I'm going through on an Archery build, and I want to know about on-hit effects. Do they all proc on melee and ranged attacks? For example, Fungal Arts has a proc ability that leaves a poison cloud, but it says melee only. However, the wiki doesn't indicate that it is melee only, and there doesn't seem to be a reason why it should be. On the other hand, several assassination skills seem like they should be melee only, but aren't said to be, explicitly. I just want to confirm what is and isn't useful for my purposes.

    Most of them are melee only. The procs in the crossbow tree and krong enchants on your crossbow will both proc with crossbows. Nothing else though. Crits work but don't affect non-mundane damage (which piercing is)

    Are you sure about this? It would make rather a mockery of the crossbows which inherently come with crit bonuses.

    This is true, they never thought of that when they gave crit. If you do get some mundane damage it will be boosted but otherwise it doesn't really do anything.
