So I finished my current game with my vegan necro build and got a over a million more points than i did last time i finished the game on dwarven moderation. I decided since this seem like a large number to check my score vs the global scores on dwarven moderation and was pleased to find out that my score is ranked #10 with over 3 million points then i noticed the top three scores are 16, 17 and 26 million points and I was blown away.

How do you even get a score like that? I killed everything on the first 14 floors and half of floor 15 before I met Lord Dredmor, cleared all the zoos, got experience with every unique item i wasn't currently wearing with archeology. I didn't have permadeath on. Does permadeath boost your score tremendously or am I missing something on getting more experience. The people ranked 5-9 are around the same score as me but the top 4 really blew my score out of the water. How do you do that?

EDIT: I saw that the modes are all ranked separate from permadeath so now I'm totally confused on how you get your score that high.

  2. I saw that too lol, the permadeath scores are much lower than the one guy that got the 26 million on Dwarven Moderation. Do you know if you get more points for beating monsters that are a much higher level than you? I really dont know how the game is scored. My initial guess was just that perhaps he rushed down, and beat Dredmor with some high powered thrown items like Holy Hand gernades or something like that while he was at a very low level and the game awarded him a very high score for that particular kill, other than that I really dont know, maybe the amount of time it takes to clear the levels? I am crawling through atm on lvl 10 and it takes me a LONG time to clear a floor, if I beat it I'll post my score here and we can try to figure out how I stack up, I guarantee that if I do beat it, it will be one of the slowest possible, as I am clearing the floors thoroughly and moving items from floor to floor.

I checked the achievements for the guy who got 26 mil and he doesn't have any dredmor kill achievements which made me even more perplexed. My only guess is that many patches ago the scores were calculated differently. I don't think speed matters because I haven't noticed my score go up or down while walking unless its something like every hundred steps.

Or there's that there are ways to easily get an insanely high score by cheating. There's that.
Speed means nothing (and also I don't think you can lose points from anything).

Yeah, there's always some jackass with Cheat Engine and a desire to hack the high scores. :(

Well actually I can do it right now with the core game and a simple mod. So it's not even that.

Scores should be based on how FEW turns you take to beat dredmor.
Easy to do with something like Score = 1 MILLION - # Moves to kill dredmor.

And yes, resting after eating or food would cost you a move per point.

That would make melee characters have the lowest score ever. Certain magic builds are pretty much good to go for the rest of the game pretty early and with luck could run down to floor 15 at a fairly low level compared to a melee build and kill Lord Dredmor. I don't think there needs to be another reason to play with direct damage magic.

Now that I think if it my fungal arts dual wielding mace guy would have gotten a negative number on his run between farming fungus and generally being melee only that run took easily three times as long as any magic run ive done.

I didn't know there was a global high score ranking. Can you tell me where I can find it? Is it on Steam?

When you press the achievements link in steam there's and option on the page to check high scores on that page. You can see you and your friends list or global separated by difficulty and permadeath.

    Found it, thanks!

I'm 80th on going rogue with permadeath ... woohoo.

Ehh, I got 1,700,000 points on my last GRPD win. So even 3,000,000 seems like a lot to me. It sounds to me like the point system should be something like 10 mil - points. Because if you take a long time or grind a lot you should get less points if anything.

Was your GRPD win with all 15 floors turned on and no time to grind turned off because that's lower than all my wins on dwarven moderation? I wish I knew how the scores are calculated.

Maybe, Melee still needs to eat, and the aoe spells would reduce the number of turns it takes to clear them.

Yeah I had no time to grind on. Makes the game so much better.
