not sure if it was posted already. first off, using the skill on a mob infront of you will do the usual damage and not skill damage, monsters behind it will get hit by skill damage, though. second, sometimes it seems to hit twice, i see two numbers on the monster, one of them always a 2 third, it hits though doors and walls, i can sometimes open a zoo door, close it, and use the skill though the door until everyone is dead. fourth, the skill counts as normal melee attack. even if the monster is not exactly near you, it still can counter hit you, even if you hit though a wall, or a door.
1. It does both the attack damage and the skill damage combined 2. The two numbers are slashing and piercing damage. It does (8 + ) and 2. And on the tile directly in front it does that and your attack damage. 3. This is intended 4. This is a consequence of intended behavior. It being treated as an attack follows all rules of an attack regardless of location, melee power, crits and counters.
I'm not sure that's what he's talking about. I've seen several instances of AOE spell effects repeating at times when they weren't supposed to.
1. i know, but what other AOE attack does it? 2. normal attacks show just 1 number, except this attack on my build. 3. an attack to kill entire zoos and lord dremor without danger intended? 4. i dont see how a counter attack though a wall would be intended.
for a special effect to be considered an attack, all it needs is to be flagged as an attack on spellsDB.xml. any spell effect that is flagged as an attack will apply melee power as damage. Any attack has a chance to be dodged, blocked and countered regardess of distance to the character.
you mean that casting a spell, like that AOE spell from demonlogy, can trigger tons of counters that will hit you even if you are nowhere near them?
yes. it was a problem I encountered when i was designing a special projectile attack for my clockwork knights set. however, the only special attacks that work at a distance that are also classified as melee attacks are party of the special weapon skill trees. thibault's tromepent, norwegian axenado, ragnar's meteor etc. Sonic Blast from my Clockwork Knights set is also an attack, but since it applies a -100 counter debuff to the target before the damage is applied, it can never be countered.
it can still be blocked and dodged, but i just thought it was a bit silly to get killed by a projectile counterattack.
