so...i finally got down to the final level on moderate/permadeath. I wasn't really sure where to expect lord dredmor since this was my first time, but I was sure it was going to be a tough fight. anyway, I was peeking around some corners and I noticed him. I was only at half life so i shot a flaming arrow and went back up the steps to grind some mobs for some health (vampirism). my level 2 slime i think went chasing after dredmor. so...i come back down a few minutes later and start exploring some other rooms figuring i should loadup better ranged bolts if i can before i fight dredmor and bam! you have defeated lord dredmor. what?! that was it! i only shot him with one arrow! what do you think happened? did the fire from the flame error never go out or was dredmor waltzing around in traps?
I've never made it to Dredmor alive, but the traps down there are pretty nasty. I'd go with the latter.
traps were no problem for me, with archaeology maxed and a +2 trap ring and +2 gloves i could pretty much pick up any of them.
When I got to him 2 recursive curses killed him in 4 turns. I think the idea is that its a kill or be killed situation at its fullest--really short fight but if you screw up your opening move he can kill you. I do wish he was more akin to a boss battle from other games, something that would make you use up a good few resources from your hoard to bring down a very large pool of hp to zero and what not.
There's been strange behavior that he dies often off-screen somehow. If you're in front of him he can take holy hand grenades to the face all day.
Yeah I was tossing HHG's in his gullet all day and his health bar stayed at 1,000,000% but as soon as he was out of my line of sight he started tacking massive damage...
Hes easy if you have good resists and can keep your distance. If he touches you your dead in like two hits.
I think they were talking about the fact that he dies kind of too easily if you leave him offscreen with something capable of dealing damage. As if he was secretly cutting himself, or something.
Maybe because he has 100% chance of casting stuff like torus which damages himself too? I don't know wild guess. So if he still getting hit he will cast and probably pwn himself lol =]
Can the mind flayer dudes on floor 3 blink? if not I may have run across the same bug as Dredmor. I was throwing stuff at one where it was in the last tile that I could see, then it ran away one tile away into the dark. I moved to get closer, only it had moved about 6 tiles in 3 turns. That was quite strange.
That's the unrelated bug of the player using multiple turns at once. The monster could only move a short bit by the time you'd walked over there.
No no, it's the opposite. The monster moved WAY MORE than it was supposed to. Which could explain dots working way faster if it's the same bug.
The thing that comes to mind is something I saw in Spelunky, actually....in that game, the primary way to deal with an aggro shopkeeper who's "loose" when you have a shotgun is to get him offscreen more than a certain distance - the game "freezes" things that are offscreen to save mem usage. Then, you blast away in his direction with a shotgun - the pellets have the same behavior. So when you scroll forward, Mr. Shopkeeper suddenly catches 10 shotgun blasts to the face and instantly dies. Could something similar be happening to Dredmor - the DoTs are being TRACKED while he's offscreen, but not APPLIED till something happens that makes him update, and then being all applied at once for an "instant" kill? I've seen critters get DoT'ed just on the edge of the screen before, and they'll do some strange things - especially Zoos with Squid Bolts. I clear the first half with 2, then walk forward - and all the guys clustered in the back have FX appear on them like they're getting hit just as they appear, even if the bolts are all long done.
Honestly, on Elvishly Easy, from what I've seen, Dredmor went down in like... three or four hits with my sword and shield-weilding melee character. Then again I did have a really good enchanted Doul's Possible Sword, after all, so he was taking loads of damage from crits. Felt way too easy for me, since he barely got any damage on me.
