How scared should I be?

Discussion in 'Dungeons of Dredmor General' started by RaustBlackDragon, Dec 28, 2011.

  1. I entered a warp gate after maxing out golemancy, entered floor zero, and...

Found this thing. How scared should I be.png

    ...am I going to die?

As so long as you let it sleep, you'll be fine. If not, use your Golemancy powers to keep it at bay...

  3. I fought it. I won, thanks to a couple of mortal machines.

    Golemancy beats anything. Anything... Really...
    Max Golemancy >>>> Anything.
You got a problem? Build walls around it. Trap that crap in! Keep casting your machine inside the playpen of death, sprinkle thaumites, and shake.. Poof. No more problem.

I once saw one of those awake while playing as a rogue when I entered a portal in the first floor. I died, hard.

Yeah, don't touch the glowing blue warps. Those, for the most part, unless you have the right skillsets, are insta-death. The monsters there are way over your level of ability when you spot it, and the rewards generally aren't worth it. The secret levels here are just a gauntlet of death.

My two experiences with Level zero were about the same:
    -----------
"Oh neat, appeared in some random spot in level zero. Cool. Wonder if there's any mad lewt around this coooorNEERERERERROGODWHATISTHAT?" *clutches heart

"It's cool whoa, cool man, whoa. You can do this, you can do this"

    *Monster shoots some overpowered shit.

*Player starts to melt away to overpowered shit.

    "GAME OVER MAAAAN GAME OVVERRRRRRR"
    -----------

Seriously though, my second time I sorta knew it would be BS, but it's still fun to try. I walk around a corner and see this slimy thing that looks like it's flopping all over the place and instantly knew it had to be acidic. Didn't know it shot acidic death until about 2 turns later though. Like, "OH GOD IT HAS ACID BOLTS WTF" more or less.

I stay far, far away from those blue teleporters.

    Scared shitless of Level 0,

So I haven't beat RotDG yet, but One of my characters is on floor 11, which is the deepest I have been. Just about every other monster is a Muscle Diggle. Nuts.
But then again, I went into a mysterious portal, cleared the place out and got bored so I started using my digging ray to tunnel around looking for other secret rooms. Didn't find anything after a while, but on my way back through the tunnel found a tar (looking) monster. Still have never seen one of those before in the normal game.

  9. My Chemical Explosion = easy mysterious realm.
You mean a Slick? Yeah, probably won't for a while. There's some commented-out stuff in the XMLs about oil not behaving or some such.

actually, they exclusively apear in the 11+ levels, so you only see them when you get that deep, hence why you haven't seen one prior

In other news, Vegan lv 2 + Muscle diggle/Sea crusader in mysterious port = fun times with your body guard.

That's weird because I swear Slicks were appearing on floor 1 for a while, but I guess they got taken out.

  12. I've handled 2/3 of the mysterious portals I've encountered, I think you should try them more often. Just make sure to full clear the floor you find em on so you can go in with an extra level.

Here's a fun fact: Monsters actually gain HP the higher your level is. A multiplier is applied to it as you advance in level depending on your difficulty (formulas here: http://www.dredmorwiki.com/wiki/Difficulty). So while these monsters will hit you extraordinarily hard hitting if you encounter them way early they won't have as many hit points as they will when you find them 8 floors later. A few potent ranged weapons, like Brimstone Flasks or Icicle Wands can typically kill them in one use if you're lucky.
