As the subject implies, this is a thread for us to list what mods we have found to work well and stable with one-another. Balance is another issue, but I will leave that up to you if you care to comment on balance or not. I just discovered mods and this forum two days ago, so I do not yet have a thoroughly tested set of mods that I can really confirm are stable together. I will add to this in the future as I discover what works and what does not. Obviously this currently for 1.09RevB. If your main menu does not list this then you need to update. (Presuming it is the same on Windows, Mac and Linux.) Please feel free to blab about the weather if you want to ruin my efforts. Otherwise, please tell us what you like using together, and how you remember what mods to enable each time you start since the mod manager does not remember anything and hates kittens too. I am going through much of the Completed Mods thread and seeing what I like and dislike before I test what works together and what crashes hard in annoyingly difficult to diagnose ways. I will post again when I have something of relevance to add. Please think of the kittens you would kill by discussing the weather...
Here is the completed Mod list if you haven't noticed it yet. http://community.gaslampgames.com/threads/completed-mods-index.1951/ My Clockwork Knights mod is designed for people who enjoy crafter warrior builds and combines very nicely with zaratustra's megacrafts mod.
^ as above, Clockwork Knights, Megacrafts, Rougish Renovation, Jay's Phenome mod, and Interior Dredmorating all work together very well.
From my understanding, all the mods work well together, EXCEPT the ones that clearly state they are not/might not be compatible with something. There are at least 2, iirc. There is currently an issue with I think Fax Pack and Roguish Renovations, but don't hold me to this. I don't know any of the details are there are open threads for both mods. I'm not using Fax Pack yet. Personally I use & have used the following mod mixes without any problems. Balance (must edit/replace files) Clockwork Knights Essential DoD 1 & 2 Blood Knight Dragon Aspirants Bushido (Now in a pack) Inquisitor Usurper Interior Dredmorating (is sensitive on lvl 11 with polymorphing characters) - Save a lot Just added Aquaman's Item Expansion, but haven't loaded up a game yet. Jay Phonemes Monsterous Menagerie Wild Magic These can make for some very overpowered builds, but that is something you will just have to work through. Example: Blood Knight, Blood Mage, Bushido and Inquisitor. Add duel and any weapon or even one good Rogue or attack Mage skill and you pretty much an unstoppable Melee with magic/rogue support. My advise is to do what your doing... work through the list. Also, don't activate a mod that your not using for your current characters. This can cut down on potential issues and reduce the amount of skills to choose from at game start. There is an overlap bug that you will notice if you have it. Anoyying, but it can be dealt with. I hope all this is helpful.
There's a problem with FAXPAX causing crashes, all by itself. The issue with Skymuffin has been resolved; it's nothing I can do anything about. Omninegro's complained about FAXPAX seemingly randomly causing crashes alone.
Wow. Very fast and thorough replies. I am shocked however that no-one mentioned the weather. My kittens are safe thus far! FAXPAX does crash at character generation for me. I think it is purely a path issue. As lccorp2 said, I posted about it in the thread for it. From what I am reading here, this thread is mostly useless. Everyone seems to agree that so long as the mod it self works, it should work with any other mods that do not attempt to change the same things or use the same IDs. Am I understanding this correctly? Half the reason I made this thread was so people have a place to talk about the completed mods. (Since that thread is rightly locked to prevent unnecessary kitten death.) So it still has a purpose I suppose. Perhaps it would have been better to have listed this as a place to discuss what mods conflict with one another. Modders are some of the most intelligent and creative people out there, so I am certain everything will get sorted properly. Thanks for the replies everyone!
None of the mods quite conflict with each other because nearly nothing can possibly conflict. they ALL work together with nearly no bugs. Okay there might be a few things but they generally could conflict with something in the core game (actually dredmorating is the only one I know because of the double polymorph that's possible, but that'll be fixed in the next version anyway I believe). As far as which work together as are synergistic it shouldn't be that hard to figure that out yourself.
Are you sure about that "nearly nothing can possibly conflict" part? While I'm not aware of any mods that currently _do_ conflict, I can imagine lots of ways they _could_ conflict. If two different mods use the same name for an item, spell, or skill, that's likely to cause issues, isn't it? Same thing if two mods use text.xml to create random "@" blockers with the same name, or using the same noun. And, of course, in 1.0.9, if two mods use the same skill numbers, they'd conflict, but that's being fixed in 1.0.10 and the community has done a very good job of avoiding it. To clarify: that is actually a main game bug that is going to be fixed in 1.0.10, not a mod conflict. Plus it only happens in one room, which can only spawn on the dojo floor (floor 11 or 12 depending on how you count), and only once on that floor, and only matters if you're in a shapeshifted form when that happens. So, no big deal. Diggle Nog is more dangerous.
I'm doing what Iccorp2 suggests too, and it's very fun. The best you can do is try everything, pley them several times, play again what you enjoyed more and mix some of them to see how they work together. It's been a while since I played with mods the last time, and now I'm trying a lot of them that I didn't before, such as Dragon Knight and Blood Knight, both very cool
My current mod set includes the following: Atheist Monk. Blood Knight. Clockwork Knights. Dragon Knight. Mana Mastery. Interior Dredmorating. All are enabled and all but the last one are skills. (I strongly suspect everyone here already knows that, but I said it anyway.) I select each of those and two other skills when making a character. Usually my other choices are Mathemagics and one other damaging magic skill. My current playthrough uses Necroeconomics. I should have picked Golemancy as I really love tunneling around and cannot force myself to leave a level until I get to every last area of the map. Without Golemancy I am unable to get everywhere. I would love a suggestion on what else I can do. Bolts of Mass Destruction are too rare to use for this. Crafting them is too much of a resource grind. Next character I make will certainly be the same with Necroeconomics traded for Golemancy unless someone has a better idea. (I did notice that the Grave Digger mod has a skill that should help with this as a cooldown ability, so it would save me a lot of mana, but mana is something I can usually keep up enough to tunnel as needed with Golemancy, and the cooldown is not. (I am loath to cheat and edit the mod to have a shorter cooldown, but I have considered it. Forty turns is a lot.) Before you each take turns beating me with the Cheater Stick of Everlasting Doom, remember I am very new to the game and even newer to the mods. I have never beaten or even seen Dredmor. I do welcome advice though.
I left my stick in the other coat, so I'm just gonna suggest that you don't do that. When you cheat, you get to your objective easier, but when you reach it, you won't feel nearly as good as if you didn't cheat.I'll put myself as an example. I've beaten Dredmor just one time, and my Steam counts 177 played hours. The only thing I've done to make it easier it's to stop playing Going Rogue (because losing is fun, but finishing the game is too XD) and try it in Dwarven Moderate (or sometimes in EE *blush*). Trust me, overcome the calling of the Dark Side of Cheaters and play the game normally, learn the basics, try to improve after every death and eventually, you will defeat Dredmor and you will feel sooooo good
You may be right about that, but learning how the game saves values in memory and how to make it go crazy can be amusing. I test things a lot and dislike really being slaughtered too much. I really have not played to the end, but I could make myself entirely invulnerable without editing a single mod or base file of the game. I choose not to, but I do sometimes choose to give myself infinite lockpicks and other things so I do not have to pick every item up and scrounge for resources. Does it detract from the enjoyment I would have if I beat it fairly? Absolutely. But as I said, I have not beaten it. I play to enjoy the time. Dying can be fun, but trying things and having the knowledge of what I did that would have killed me is as good for me. Screenshot incoming! I will beat the game, and likely with this same build. But not this testing character. (I hope a moderator does not instagib me for this post. I do however expect a plethora of dislikes on it. I accept the disgrace I have earned.) But I am honest and fair in saying I will not cheat when I intend to try winning. This character told me that the build is capable of winning with the style of play I prefer for the moment. I can safely kill him and start another. Artmoney is Uber.
Your most welcome. Almost everyone that posts in the forums like to help out... Except Wi$p. He just likes...but he does it well, very well. My bad. Complete oversight. Here you go: Sun is shining, the weather is sweet, yeah Make you wanna move your dancing feet now To the rescue, here I am. Want you to know, yall, can you understand? www.youtube.com/watch?v=xe7ogTN2hv0 <--- Marley man. Yes, except the first part. This thread is not mostly useless. If it isn't to your liking, rephrase your question/topic might be worth considering. Telling people that have taken the time to help you that they are not doing what you deem as useful. Snarkyness does not earn likes from Wi$p. Suggestion. Figure out each half of what you want, contemplate how to articulate said wants and create two more threads describing these wants in a clear concise manner reflected in the Thread Topic. Yes they are. They, as well as non modders, also don't like being told that there efforts are mostly useless when they are not. As for sorting it out, that is entirely up to you. As for the replies, it sounds like you may not desire anymore in this mostly useless thread. Btw, one little tid bit of info that my have gotten past you. With a few exceptions, none of the mods are "complete", as in finished or final. Most have been completed but are a wip, but they are not complete and can be distinguished as such from some of the version numbers they are given. Lastly, my view on implied "cheating" in games. - If you play with others, play nice, unless your playing a bad guy. Respect the rules as not to effect others gameplay in an undesirable way for them. - If you play by yourself, may it be Solitare or DoD, Skyrim or whatever single player game, do whatever makes you happy. It is between you, the game and the existentialism you choose to bring into it. It doesn't matter what anyone else says or thinks about it. Enjoy
I was unaware of the level of sneaky criticism that can be put into a reply. Well done. As for the "mostly useless" part, that was a reference to MY own words. As you so lovingly explained. My lack of eloquence as well. I am aware that there is no such thing as finished mods. Nor even finished Roguelikes in general. I have been playing them two thirds of my life and most are still being updated occasionally. You remind me of a sarcastic English Professor I once knew. Most people hated him. I did not. Please do keep me on my toes. The refinement of my communications skills into something possibly useful is much desired.
I admit I was in a bit of a mood last night and took offense [and don't normally jump on people (see below)]... Great diffusion! And in respect to that hated English Professor, probably my mother in disguise, I've gone back to edit in an affirmation to Bob Marley for the weather report.
Before I replied, I looked around at some of your posts. This seemed a bit off for your style. But I am very open to criticism. (Even if I disagree with it.) Thanks for clarifying that you were not so offended. But remember, I did say those things. So I should have chosen my words better. The fact that I had to clarify that it was my words I was saying were useless is proof that you were right to say what you did. *Edit* By the way. Despite my lack of eloquence, I am a competent arguer. And too damned stubborn to back down whenever I think I am right. I have nothing to argue about in your post. But I look forward to arguing for the lives of my precious, precious Kittens. Lol.
I have to post it... The original. *Edit* I just killed a bunch of kittens... Shame on me for mentioning the weather!
