Dredmor Patch 1.0.10 RC9 Feedback Thread - I Believe in The Lever Fix

Discussion in 'Dungeons of Dredmor General' started by Nicholas, Feb 27, 2012.

  1. Thanks guys, I managed to get it to work! Working on updating SwiftStriker to the new system as we speak!

  2. Oh, and I found the new "insult", if nobody else has yet. Should I share it?

It should work if you do it in the same session - i.e. play a male character, then play as a female character without restarting the application.

In other news, I think the sporification nonsense is now fixed. Yay, dangerous and reckless code changes!

Done it, several times, with and without PD, back-to-back-to-back. Sent several girls and boys to the slaughter, made an identical boy and girl and have played them through two levels, each for a few minutes, save and quit, load the other, play, save and quit, ad infinitum. Nothing doing. Been trying since RC5, too, new games and old.

Either I have the worst luck possible, or all my chicks are secretly dudes in drag. I know it's more likely I'm doing something wrong, but I don't know what it could be.

I tried the new patch for OSX. But all I get are error messages like "File named skills/butcher32.png not found. The game will probably crash!".
Sounds like files from Realm of the Diggle Gods, which I do not own. :|

I believe Nicholas said something about deleting the expansion folder, and that it should work if you do that.

perfect. Solved the problem for me. thx!

    About the 'loading a save'-crash:
Does the new patch make it possible to load old saves (which crashed the game (v. 1.0.9) ) or does it only prevent the saves from getting corrupt?

  8. Hey guys, critical hits seem to be happening, but the animation and sound effect aren't.

I have noticed this as well, Raust. My character randomly hits for higher than normal damage, a critical hit, and yet nothing happens to register.
    This is awkward.

A SA goon caught that this morning; I've fixed it. RC8 will be out later this evening (I think?)

  11. Oh dear. Will I have to go through that entire updating process again? :(

but happy to hear it's fixed!

    I'm guessing a non-beta won't come out for at least a month.

I remember a lot of worry that switching to a proc would make the skill useless, and I remember thinking that was silly, as Gaslamp is many things, but stupid ain't one. But I don't remember anyone saying that the transition would stop destroying corpses. Then again, with a 68k word manuscript to proof-read, edit and try to sell by the 31st, my ability to absorb the written word is kind of spotty this month, so the devs could have said in this thread that a talking poodle would be DoD's third playable hero and there would only be 50/50 chance it'd register.

By a "pure" build I mean a character with all Wizard skills, and thus 2 HP per level and a seemingly small use for healing stretched out over many turns. I've always found healing potions from Alchemy to be more useful for emergency healing than either Crystal Healing or Flesh Knit in those builds. I'm sure the skills are better on a "gish", a wizard/warrior build, which would have more HP and probably better armor too, so they could afford to tank a few turns while healing. Although, with an average of 200-250 healing potions per run, I've found myself drinking them for all healing purposes on lower levels. As a Wizard, at least.

I don't think it was stated by a dev. People were brainstorming a new version of the skill. I recommended an on death proc that shouldn't consume corpses, and the devs said that that was the plan. (At least the proc part.) And now we have a proc skill that doesn't consume corpses. Was it ever explicitly stated? No. But it was discussed, and I don't think it's an accident that the proc doesn't consume the corpse. I think it was intentional.

I've played a pure wizard as far as skills go, but still wore armor that didn't totally hose my Magic Power. It's nice to be able to melee things sometimes. Knit Tissue allows that. You can cast it one turn and the initial heal counters the free hit the monster gets. Then it heals you a few more times over the following turns. That lets you stay there and continue to melee the monster without losing too much health. A healing pot can't do that. That's why I say it's a great spell for mages. Not all mages need to played as ones that never melee, even pure ones.

Obviously, you can play the game however you'd like. But it seemed like you were dismissing Fleshsmithing outright, which I thought was undeserved. It's not a bad skill. The only shortcoming it really has is the lack of a really good pet. The Zomby isn't very good for its skill level. That, and it definitely requires a lot of points to get the Miasma, where something like Obvious Fireball is a lot cheaper. The early, solid heal is where the skill really shines, though.

  16. Hey, I found a bug:

The resistable flag doesn't work for knockback and damage, meaning that it's impossible to make a damage spell that ignores enemy magic resistance.

To be fair, Flesh Knit is pretty good even for mages, at least until you're up against the Really Deep stuff, where exotic damages exceed 15 on most enemies. And I've only ever played Fleshsmithing under 1.0.9 once. But when I rushed for the capstone skill and found what I got was basically a spell on par with OF and the zombie was blech, I decided that This Skill Needs Help. Not that it's bad. It could be great, easily as good as Mathemagics or Psionics. But it's not there yet. Maybe there should be a brainstorming session for Skills Needing Help in the next patch.

Animation speed of Dragon's Breath gets really slow, after I putt point in Gog's Tactical Pyre. So basicaly animation of that spell goes insanely fast on any lvl, (last checked on lvl 10) untill I get Gog's Tactical Pyre.

I loaded up two of my older (1.0.9revB) saves in RC7, played, saved...now neither will work with RC8. They either get stuck loading or give me a runtime error.

My poor kids...stuck in save limbo.

Using the steam exe, and if you want my save games I'll deliver, just let me know.

Edit: Also, the steam exe takes a full minute to load, the regular exe loads almost immediately...but neither one works with my RC7 save.

Edit part deux: 1.0.9revB saves work with RC8 with regular exe.

Having the same problem with RC7 -> RC8 saves. Managed to load an old 1.0.9B save fine, but I only had the one left lying around, so it's not exactly a large statistical sampling...
