We love you Nicholas. And the same for everyone working on these betas. The game is great and just keeps getting better.

The idea of keeping all saves from actual releases is nice, but please do not let it keep the best dog from winning the dog show. I start a new character every day at least. So it would have minimal effect on me at all. I rather think I am not alone in this too.

Any particular area of RC9 besides save games that we should focus on for issues? Or shall we just play as usual and see what issues make themselves known? (I will presume the latter until you or another Developer says otherwise.)

RC8 is rock solid for me. I still wonder why it chews on my CPU like it does, but all versions of DoD have been that way for me.
(The multicore support and CPU usage stuff is here in case you want to see what I am blabbing about, but it is mostly unimportant. Stability is priority. Features and efficiency come later.)

Okay. What the hell happened. I suddenly froze in the game while moving upwards, and my character continued the animation forever, locking all keyboard imput except Alt-Tabing out.
I don't know what happened to cause this, but I blame that Pumpkinn. No, really, that's the only thing I can think of. I mean, what the hell...
I shot it with noxious brimstone flash, moved upwards, and the game literally trapped me into the walking animation, nothing worked. I literally tried every possible combination of keypresses until Alt-Tabbing out, then I started up Task Manager to kill Dungeons of Dredmor.
I don't know what happened here...:(

It's happened to me too, I don't know what triggers it, but I will occasionally arrow once in one direction, then just keep walking until I hit a wall. The workaround is, ironically, to hit that same direction key again. So if you're stuck going up, press the up key again and you will stop. If it happens again, try this and let me know if it works for you too.

I'd have mentioned it before, but I honestly thought it was just one of my laptop's little quirks.

I have had similar issues in other applications with all USB keyboards. Never once with a PS2 keyboard however.

But these days many motherboards do not even have a PS2 port.

Now that I think of it, I have had this issue with both 1.0.10 RC5 and 1.09 RevB. Both times were with the "D" button to move right. (I use wsad.) And both times a repeat pressing of said button fixed it.

I have also had this problem with my character moving even though I am no longer pressing any keys. I can usually stop it by pressing the key that corresponds to the direction that I am stuck moving in (sometimes, I have to press it multiple times). I am using a USB keyboard but I thought that maybe it was my keyboard just getting old and possibly dying.

Could something for Linux please please get posted? Either a RC, or I'd even take a 1.0.8 download somewhere.

When my Windows box died, I downloaded the 1.0.9 Linux version from the humble bundle, but the save game bug makes it pretty hard to get anywhere. :/

David, Omni, Grim, Lions: That is actually an issue that has (virtually) nothing to do with Dredmor, though the way it handles certain situations can cause it to happen. It is a very common occurrence when too many key signals are sent at once (most commonly on a wireless keyboard). The solution is, as a couple people have mentioned, is to hit the key that corresponds to what's "stuck". What happens is that the "key down" command is received, but the "key up" is lost somewhere, so hitting the key again triggers another "key down", which does nothing, and a "key up", which stops the motion.

This used to happen to me constantly when playing games that required multiple simultaneous key presses (modifiers not included) on a wireless keyboard. Sometimes this type of issue prevents other keys from functioning, but it's more likely that you just think they aren't doing anything because the "stuck" key is trumping them in terms of commands recognized by the game. Hope that clears it up for you!

I did get a moment to start a new character that uses Psychokinetic Shove and found the same type of room and this time had no trouble accessing the breakable walls to get the loot. My computer may have just had a hiccup or something. It happens occasionally with any type of program. Luckily, it only happens once every month or two.

Just to let others know, no I don't overclock my CPU or Graphics Card. I get enough speed from my system that I don't need to degrade it faster just for a tiny speed increase.

    Thanks for the info coldcandor. I have noticed that this has happened occasionally but I have owned my keyboard for years now and it has only seemed to be happening in the last year or so. Also, I hate wireless keyboards and only purchase the wired kind. Same with my trackball. {I prefer trackballs over mice as I don't have to move my arm to move a little cursor across the screen and the trackball doesn't seem to harm my FPS skills much if at all. :) }

I don't know. I did use every key combo possible, and nothing worked. And this was the first time ever it happened to me. :(
I'll try to remember what to do the next time it glitches out. But man, that was really annoying. :(
I hope I saved not that long before it. I wasn't expecting it to mess up like that.

I never experienced that before, ever, in any game, so I'm a little confused how it can be common based on a keyboard.
Also, most modern computers don't have a slot for a PS-2 keyboard. I know mine doesn't, and I got it 2 years ago

I also don't like it when my computer seems to register a normal mouse click as two of them. :( Really annoying.

David's problem sounds like a variant of the persistent damage field bug. See here. It's supposed to be fixed this patch, so it's a good thing to know.

Another XML bug: Tougher Lord Dredmor casts 'Strong Lingering...' spells instead of 'Supreme Lingering...' spells.

RC8: Started random skills character with Master of Arms in it, but character started out with only a Fine Linen Shirt. He's supposed to have a leather armor and iron cuirass, isn't he ?

Full list of skills: Crossbows, thrown, unarmed, artful dodging, master of arms, promothean magic, magic training.

Something else, same character just a couple minutes later. Found an enchanted simple crossbow in uberchest, and placed it on a krong altar where it got a few more stats + "charges enemies with bolts of electricity" proc effect. Opened next door and melee attacked the diggle coming at me. Game played the electricity damage sound effect and then froze, hard. No error messages either, have to ctrl+alt+delete to close DoD.

Edit: Game version is DoD+RotDG 1.0.10 RC8, Vista 64 bit OS. If that's of relevance. Editedit: Here's the autosave from the game. The enchanted crossbow is in the just unlocked uberchest to the southeast, krong altar in the nearest unopened room to the northwest. When I reloaded the autosave I got a different weapon effect, blasts away enemies, which doesn't trigger game crash on melee. But you might be able to reproduce the crash from the save, I don't know.

You get the Leather Cuirass with any skillset that has a majority of Warrior skills.
You get the Iron Cuirass if you have Master of Arms and you have a majority of Warrior skills.

Similar rules for the Fine Linen Shirt / Robe / etc.

    ---

I've just now figured out the 'save and then you die' bug that some people might've encountered. When you save any active :life: buffs seem to momentarily disable themselves, causing you to die. You can reproduce this by giving yourself a :life: buff, getting hurt such that you would die if you didn't have the buff and then saving.

Disregard that first post then. :)

Edit: Also, crossbow with knockback is bad ass!

I'm having this issue with RC8 and the Steam overlay causing a hang. To reproduce:
    1. Open DoD and click "start" on the launcher. Then, while waiting for it to load, switch to another window like Firefox.
    2. Eventually the game loads up, but I only get a blank, black screen with music. If I wait long enough, Steam overlay shows up, but it still stays blank after the little pop-up goes away. Nothing seems to get the game out of this, whether it's clicking, pressing keys, or just waiting for it. If I alt-tab and then come back, it remains this way.
    3. The only way to fix this is to close with task manager (right clicking on DoD in the task bar and selecting close does not work) and then re-open DoD (without switching to other windows after starting), or to run DoD without Steam overlay.
Sometimes it just doesn't open, period-- DoD is visible on my task bar, but clicking on it or switching/alt-tabbing back does nothing. Other times, alt-tabbing out of DoD makes it so that I can never return to the window.

The game also has a very noticeable loading delay when Steam overlay is turned on, whereas when it is off it loads almost instantly.

    edit: i'm on windows 7

I have found a new bug on my system. I am running Windows XP, AMD approximately 2GHz Dual Core CPU and 2 GB of ram. I was playing around last night and tried 2 different characters (1 was to try breaking walls with Psychokinetic Shove again) and saved them and then today, I tried loading one and DoD crashes on me. I have since tried loading both saves and the autosave and they all crash on me. I even started a new game and saved it, then I loaded it without leaving DoD and it loaded fine. When I quit DoD completely and tried to load it in a new game of DoD it crashed to desktop. There seems to be a bug that is doing this to me and since they are all DoD 1.0.10 RC8 saves, they should work fine. Here are all 4 of the save files below. Nutonia is the one that I did the test on to see if I could repeat the crash bug.

EDIT: I forgot to mention that I purchased DoD on steam but with the patch am using the regular DoD starting exe.

In BGH for Most Dangerous Game you accidentally gave the damaging Hunter's Strike as a 50% on a targetKillBuff. Respectively Butcher is on a hit buff in there at 15%. I'm assuming you'd mixed those two up.
