Looks like it won't be on Steam until next week then...

Well, seems like I'm a little late here. I've been a little disconnected from the forums due to lack of free time, but I've been lurking as soon as I've been able to get some time, and I just wanted to say that I would love to be more participative in this "community debugging process". Maybe next time :)

I'm gonna leave here my impresions though, so here are my answers to Nicholas:

    • Is it better to have patches once every three months (say), but knowing that they have gone through the level of inspection that this patch has? Or has this been too slow?
It is never too slow if results are as good as these ones. Maybe I'm not an anxious person when awaiting for updates, but I think (both from a developer and a user point of view) that debugging is a process that needs to be done with extreme caution and delicacy. When you are trying to improve something you've done, it is never enough. You always want to make it better, and I understand that. So no, I don't think three months is too slow. If it is the time you've needed to get it done, so be it.
    • How concerned are you about: a) balance issues b) software bugs c) user-interface issues? How do you feel that these things have been addressed, or not addressed?
Since I haven't try the RC yet, I just will say that above all three, the one that annoys me most are software bugs. Balance issues can be resolved with mods (in some way, i think) until some solution comes out. I can get used to UI issues after some time playing. But software bugs, I can't resist it. They frustrate me, but luckily, Dredmor is not a game that has forced me to stop playing because of that, at least since I started playing (1.0.7 I think).
    • How do you feel about how the things that have bothered you have been addressed?
This I'll reply when I try the new patch, but from what I've read in this thread, looks like it's gonna be a great patch.
    • Are you going to be using any of the new features (Steam Cloud, Steam Workshop)? Was this worth our time?
I am going to use Steam Cloud for sure, since I already do for another Steam games (I use a laptop and a desktop PC, so it is very handy). I'll check Steam Workshop, since I've never used it.
    • Are you as worried about Thursday as I am? :)
Well, not worried. Excited? yes. A lot. I love this game, and even it's been a while since my last playthrough, I never get tired of a roguelike, and I never get tired of Dredmor. After 200+ hours, I still feel that I've just scratched the surface of it, and well, how many games do you know that do that?

I made this post longer than expected, but I just wanted to leave my thoughts here. One more thing: with this process, you've made me think once again that you're a hell of a team, and great people, each of you. Other companies should take you as an example of how things need to be done. I'm taking you all as an example, now that I'm throwing myself into the world of software developing. And other game communities should take example of all the fine people that gather here. Keep up the good work! :D

I'll go run through RC 9 and see how things are.
I'd be happy if you fixed the walls not breaking...I kind of like knowing there are areas to open up without spamming bolts of mass destruction/ the football throwing item from whatever mod it spawns from. :)
However, it only really breaks mod added rooms, more than likely, so if you don't fix it, it's fine with me. Just as long as you do work at fixing it eventually.

    1.0.10 Rev B?

After all, remember the programming axiom, "Find one bug in the code, remove it, recompile the code, 99 bugs in the code." :)
I mean, no matter how perfect testing can be, you can still have really annoying bugs slip past.

As for Alt-F4, every time I've used it, so far, it jumps me back to the main menu. Instead of closing the program.
I would like to know if this is working as designed, or what.
Keep in mind, I wouldn't really need to use Alt-F4 at all, if it wasn't for the fact, I think you all at Gaslamp still won't allow for Krong Anvils and their cursing chance to be modded.

No, really, I just want to know if you'll ever make that changeable. I will pay you money if you do, and that's not really a joke. $20 sounds fair?
    No, I am serious here.

I intend to buy another copy of the game with RotDG once it is available without Steam. (Just for my own convenience.) You could do the same DavidB1111. (Although I know you like Steam, so that would not benefit you really. But it would give you the opportunity to test the new purchase option and see if it works as well as Steam.)

How about another checkbox in the character creation menu under Permadeath for "Krong never curses my gear"? Although I have no idea how much of a bitch that would be to code. I know that I and many others would love it even as it ruins the difficulty for some.

But really, there is nothing preventing a person even playing PD from backing up their saves and cheating Krong every last anvil to get a Godlike Fedora... :) (No, I am not suggesting that Fax cheated, but I sure have.)

I'll buy a few copies, if they do add something to remove Krong's chance to curse gear
Maybe an achievement called. "Okay, you're a wuss." :) for beating the game with it activated.
Or, "OMG HAX" if the game manages to curse you even with that option on. :)

I know some people will think I'm joking about paying for that option, but I am as serious as a heart attack*

*No, not Sheer Heart Attack The Bomb-Hand from Fist of the North Star.

Dredmor just crashed as I entered the second floor. :( Thankfully, it worked the next time I went down.

Guys does "Flames of the Heckforge" work? I tried it with no use, maybe I am doing something wrong?

I am so close to completing the game for the 1st time, and my axe got uber-corrupt, can't make new one ^_^

Flames of the Heckforge is supposed to only fix corruption from monsters (not Krong curses), is that not working?

I was trying to fix Krong curse, >_< , I didn't get corrupted by monsters. Thanks

  10. I don't mind patches being slow to come out, as long as RC's come out.

Yet another piece of awesomeness I didn't even know was getting added! Excellent idea for improving the clunky UI without needing to try and tackle the thing as a whole.

Thus far, this is one of the best examples of forum software I've ever come across! I do so wish the big companies would use something like this instead of creating their own that lacks the most basic features (I'm lookin at you Battle.net!).

Hey, at least it doesn't poof the item! I loved Torchlight, but the enchanting in that game had an increasing chance (something like 2% for every time you enchanted it) that it would simply be destroyed. I modded that away the first chance I had (to something that increased the monetary cost to a geometric scale that quickly was orders of magnitude more expensive to preserve balance). I hate when Krong curses me, but it's a hell of a lot better than some systems!

Here, if you're extremely unlucky, a bad Krong will crush your item. But it's much more likely that you just have to decide whether -1 to a couple resists is bad enough to warrant wearing that other thing.

Also, why not just make a Krong mod? I'm not familiar with the way mods work for this game, so maybe it's not possible, but that seems like the kind of thing a mod is PERFECT for.

If someone made a mod like that, I'd be happy.
As for Torchlight, um, the items never were destroyed. They just had the enchantment wiped, bringing the item back to mundane status.
I'm not sure why you thought the item was destroyed, because it said "Disenchantment chance." not "Destruction chance", but still.
    I love Torchlight. Amazing game.

    AFAIK, Krong is hardcoded.

My bad! Though that's tantamount to destroying it in a diablo-esk game. It's also been 2 years since I played :p

No problem, and yeah, it is equal to destroying it in a way.

Do we know where things officially stand with the official 1.0.10 patch? I haven't seen anything appear in Steam's news column yet (haven't been home long enough to try playing it). I know the goal was to release in yesterday, but someone said "Well that means at least a week for Steam..." Just wondering if I can expect to play with the new goodies this weekend.

We're having problems with getting the Steam build building on the New Build Computer. And along the way I had to rebuild a RAID array on the Old Computer (my old home machine which was at the office.) So this has put us back a bit.

Straight from the source! Thanks for the quick reply, Nicholas. Bummer, but I'm well familiar with the fun of migrating off an old system. Here's hoping the next round is easier for you!
