Also, Steam regulary wipes my game stats. I have 70 hours of game and still cant get "Way of the Dodo", "Monsters with Omelettes" and other achievements.

 

Good to see I'm not the only one that creates creates ancestors! I typically pick a cool name and add roman numerals too it until I decide to do a major skill set change or something. You get some really amusing things like

Candor I killed by a Diggle in the second room
Candor II Vanquished lord Dredmore!
<Candor III through IX died on level 1 or 2>
Candor X killed by <special from an Evil Chest> on level 9

My list is kinda sad really... about 75% of them die to the first 1-5 rooms. There really needs to be an easier way to get from "brand new noob" to "has a good enough weapon to kill a single mob without using every item he has", without resorting to the same skills that I know are awesome immediately.

I had a few nice named characters. But 99% of mine use recycled names like "Newblet" or Testie" or even "DoublePlus" and such.

It was my first death by counter crit-crit. I should have known better than to attack a monster with only 65/150 hp.

Also my best ever run in Going Rogue (full length) with Permadeath-- I made it to DL 10 with Necro/Flesh/Unarmed/Leylines/Archaeology/Shields/Vegan. The best part was probably stealing a Cloak of Sagan from Brax on DL 3, then kicking him away to escape. I got very lucky and the stairs were only 10 spaces away, and no Big Reds spawned in my way.

Later on, I found a Clouds tome, and, with Aura of Self-Righteousness, my enemies would be incredibly confused, stunned, or blinded every battle.

After finally seriously spending time with Going Rogue, I am convinced that it is the best balanced mode by far, and the only way to really play the game. I am very impressed and in awe...it's the best game death i've ever had. I didn't feel cheated, and I didn't feel like it was too easy either. I worked hard for how far I went! Awesome game.

Question for people who have done spellcasting builds with melee-- because of how hard monsters start to hit, and along with the risk of Counter Crit-Crit, do you usually just drop melee altogether late game and switch to ranged/spells? I started getting some good weapons, especially staves, but equipping one cost me a ton of and , so I didn't.
