Screenshots - How do you take them?

So this has been bugging me for a while. How do you actually take screenshots? I've been relying on the incredibly inefficient method of ctl+alt+prt scr -> MS paint -> Paste -> save as JPG.

Anyone know of a good independent tool? I use FRAPS for a lot of things, but it doesn't trigger on this game.

I play in windowed mode so I just use the windows 7 snipping tool personally. I've yet to find a reliable tool that works in full screen games other than fraps. I *think* fraps will work if you put the -opengl tag in launch options, but that may create other issues. It lets you access the steam overlay too though.

Interesting... Windowed mode is nice because it let's me move the mouse outside it without alt-tabbing, but it won't actually maximize, it's fixed at a specific size. That does crappy things, like overlay the start menu over my belt and skills :(

I'll have to play with the -opengl flag. I assume that flag is on fraps, not DoD, yes?

Uh, I don't think you need to ctrl-alt-prtscr. In most versions of windows, you can just push prtscr and it'll copy the screen to the clipboard.

No, it's on DoD. You can set it in Steam launch options or even in a shortcut, after the target

Interesting... Speaking of shortcuts, I tried that once with something else, and it resulted in my saved games not saving! I'll try Steam launch options next time.

I use Steam with the key set to F12 - very, very reliable.

On top of that, I always have Gadwin PrintScreen running, which can sometimes be a little unreliable with games (works with some, doesn't with others) but I keep it for convenience, and I also have FRAPS installed just in case.

Edit: It's the free versions of PrintScreen and FRAPS. It saves them as .bmp files, but I just convert them with IrfanView.

I just use Steam overlay for all of my games. Easy and all in one place. :)

Thanks for the tips! I didn't even know Steam could do SS! Problem though, Steam overlay doesn't work with DoD for me. Any idea how to get it to?

Aside from the -opengl 'fix', I can't think of any. I would, in that case, suggest having FRAPS or something similar as a back up.

For most people the following works.
Go to Steam Library > Right Click DoD > Properties > Set Launch Options > [Type] -opengl -> [Hit] Ok
Should work now when DoD launches next. Just check to see which button(s) you have to launch overlay and as soon as DoD hits the title screen press the button(s) and you'll know right away.

FRAPS doesn't trigger on DoD either, I have it installed already :(

I'll try the -opengl thing next time I boot. Sounds like it has some... quirks... though.

Nothing weird has happened that I can notice. My game crashed just as often before adding that to my options. Assuming you didn't mean something else. I also find it useful as I can see when achievements unlock as some take multiple tries before it works as intended (Death by Acid in a Fountain only triggered on my third death from said act).

Steam overlay works well for me. The only issue is DoD takes awhile longer to startup...and sometimes it just sits on a blank black screen and won't do anything unless I kill the process.

    Otherwise, everything works fine

Trying it now with -opengl, will let you know if I encounter anything weird! Initial startup looks good, I see the fraps FPS tracker and a steam overlay popup. Thanks for all the help guys!
