  1. Seen, a couple of times now, a thing where a quest monster will spawn in a nearby wall. Was never quite sure I was just not finding a secret room or something. Confirmed it today with a three tile thick wall, where I finally got frustrated and Bolt of Mass Destructioned the thing. It was definitely stuck in the wall until I blew the wall up.

It seems to me the 2-3 times I've encountered this was when guards for a quest item spawned when I picked the item up in a fairly confined area.

I have ran into this too. I have a current savegame with a quest monster in a wall. Using throwing weapons and the bug associated with them, I can kill the monster but doing so crashes the game hard.

Quest monsters also pop up on tiles that have object on them, like the monolith and unopened chests and such. I also hate when an item spawns in the same place as the monolith, eyeball throne or even vending machines. I hope this bug is squashed as part of the next patch. :)

you can still use WASD to move into the vending machine and use it! but yeah, if it's just an item by itself you will never ever get it :(

You can get it if you are lucky and have an attack or something that moves stuff. Even if the machine, throne, monolith or whatever are locked down, the items aren't, they can always be moved. Problems happen when the item and it's blocker keep moving together and end up in a corner on you. It is forever unreachable then. At least unless you have the dig ray spell or something like it.

Items spawning under Shrines and Vending Machines has been around since forever :( Hopefully they can squish it someday.

On the other hand, it's usually only another piece of cheese or an Aluminum Pipe or somesuch that you're "missing out on".

I'm just waiting for the day that I get a wizard's sleeve under a shrine.

Just beat Dredmor for the first time on 1.10, on DMPD. I don't have RotDG, so this was the level 10 Dredmor. He's tough. I had multiples of every buff potion- Hyperborean, Infernal, Voltaic, Dire Empowerment, Radiance, Voltaic, and as soon as I saw him I ran behind the nearest door and chugged them all. That stopped him from being able to nuke me with one or two spells (which is what happened the first time I saw 1.10 Dredmor). I was also lucky enough to have about 4 bolts of mass destruction, 4 squid bolts, and a holy hand grenade. None of these seemed to do any serious damage to him, and I hurled them all. I think the only thing that worked at all was casting tenebrous rifts on his head, and even that took a very long time. Tenebrous rift seems to be the highest damage spell in the game, and I'm struggling to see how anyone who didn't have it could do anything to him.

I think the original Dredmor, with his curious habit of suiciding if you ran away, needed to be beefed up a bit, but perhaps he's been powered up a bit too much? He just has so many resistances that you can't seem to get anything through.

My character's stats are still messed up (e.g. I have a character with +20 health regen naked!) This is due to a general problem where the game sometimes loses track of which buffs/debuffs are in effect, with the result that the character is sometimes granted a permanent stat boost by a debuff or a permanent stat penalty by a buff. Is there any way to force DoD to recalculate stats from stratch, starting from the character's skills and equipment? If not, will it get better if I create a new character? Sorry if this has been raised before, but I haven't seen this issue addressed in any list of bugfixes, and I find it can be a really serious problem for characters who experience lots of buffs/debuffs (e.g. users of Necromancy or Dual Wielding), because the effect is cumulative and the character ends up with stats going further and further from where they should be.

This is using the Mac version 1.0.10 by the way, including RotDG.

  10. Another question: so, is there a limit to the number of learned secret recipes? I'm down in DL10 on a character I was really hoping to get Clockwork Chainaxe on (since he's BS/Tink), and I keep getting bookshelves with "nothing of interest." I'm not sure I've seen a new recipe in 2-3 dungeon levels, and I don't have that one or overclocked limbs, or the bolt thrower. Very depressing.

I am still finding unresponsive special floor tiles. Here is a picture of one such set below.

I still find them in the small rooms with the red and blue glowing squares.

I am running the Steam version on Windows XP. I have the following mods running:

    Needful Things
    Compleat Essential Skills DoD
    Practical Geology
    Wind Magic

I'm not sure if they were supposed to be fixed in this patch or not but I do remember mentioning them in the RC thread.

You get that message when the game tries to give you a recipe you already have, hence the frequency of that increases the more you play.

  13. That makes the fact that I have a bunch of secret alchemy recipes very vexing. Needs my chainaxe!

I'm not sure if this is a change from previous versions or whether it's a bug, but when I steal an item from Brax and change levels, the stores on the next level accuse me of stealing the turn I leave the store. Do stolen items no longer get unflagged as stolen after changing levels?

I can get around it by teleporting out, dropping all stolen items, then moving for one turn (I haven't tested it but I assume dropping all stolen items before entering the store would have the same effect), but have to repeat it every time I enter a store.

  15. It appears that a monster hitting the trap that causes you to randomly teleport... affects the player with this debuff. This is really vexing when the trap was someplace that you never got a chance to do anything about it before say, the trap that you never were near causes you to be teleported to the center of a zoo.

Edit: This is the "Blink Curse" effect. I haven't found anything but the trap that would be doing this to me.

That would explain how I would end up with this debuff completely at random throughout my latest playthrough...

Let us not omit the fact that as of 1.0.10 the Time Lord scarf will blink you when you are hit 10% of the time.

Take the scarf off before entering a shop. Monster can and will follow you inside!

I recently accidentally whopped Brax with a radiant aura proc and was able to successfully escape to the floor below. That floor did not give me any trouble, so it sounds like you may have hit a bug where all items did not get unflagged :(

Whoa. Is Lord Dredmor the same difficulty on level 10 that he is on level 15? I was playing on DM;PD 10 level version and pretty much raping face with my warrior. Get to level 10 and the mobs health goes way up, but the damage doesn't really. Then I open a door and 'O Hai Dredmor!'. I'm dead in 3 turns. I had pretty good resistances all things considered, and his spells were doing 50 damage plus a 15/round DoT after taking out resists? He certainly needed a buff, but good lord! I only lasted 3 rounds because I happen to have 2 of the blood magic potions...

Yeah, floor 10 Dredmor is pretty tough at the moment. I beat him with a necro build, but my warrior before that also got wiped out in 3 turns. Didn't even get near him to see if a melee takedown was feasible, but he was doing 100+ damage a hit to my Robo that Loves when I was playing a wizard, so I don't fancy the chances of melee builds.
