I play plenty of non-crafting characters, but I still end up keeping a few crafting components around - for some bits and pieces. I suspect others do the same, and I thought it might be fun to pool our resources to help new players know how to save their stuff. Here are the components I always save: 1 - Get an Ingot Press and Grinder ASAP. I'll often buy the grinder if necessary. 2 - Save diggle eggs to make Deep Omlettes 3 - Grind pearls into chalk 4 - Save coal & chalk to make steel 5 - Save iron ingots & steel ingots to make bolts out of 6 - Save Aqua Vitae, coal, and rust to make health + invis potions (if you find +1). 7 - Save sulfur, saltpeter (always the limiting factor!) and coal to make gunpowder. 8 - Turn gunpowder into bombs. Wait for a +1 to get twice as many! What else?
I always go for the Ingot Press and Grinder combo as fast as I can. I save those diggle eggs and cheese for shredding and make cheesy omelets. They are cheaper to make and plentiful considering how many diggle eggs you actually find.
Softballs-- if I ever find the bola recipe. The root effect is really useful. Wands - They are HUGE early game. Especially if you decide to do a Mysterious Portal. And as long as you leave 1 charge, you can sell it for the same price
Meat and Cheese: Grind, Sköl. Ores: Press into ingots. Ingots: Craft into bolts, Sköl. Eggs: Deep Omlettes. That's about it.
Ah, but it's not just "what can you craft with 0 skill" - it's also "what do you keep around in anticipation of getting +1 or +2 by some enchantment / goggles / potion / etc?
