Question about 1.0.11

Discussion in 'Dungeons of Dredmor General' started by FaustoMartense, Jun 21, 2012.

  1. Is the 1.0.11 version part of the core game? Or the Realm of the Diggles?

Why I am asking this... I bought the game on Desura, sadly I just had enough for the core game. The expansion would have to wait a little, but I got my hands on the free DLC that needs version 1.0.11 to work.

My recently bought version says it is 1.0.10, Do I need the expansion to get the 1.0.11 update? (Basically I want the last version for the bug fixing and changes in core skill)

1.0.11 is part of the core game; unfortunately it seems like the patch hasn't reached Desura for the windows version yet.

The free DLC is version 1.0.11. It updates version 1.0.10 to version 1.0.11.

I don't know if the free expansion is on Desura or not. I got mine on steam.

  4. Thanks for the quick replies, then I am afraid I would need to wait for the Windows update to be released on Desura. I was not sure is my Desura client was not updating it, or if it was not released, since I could not find a "Update" button.

@LionsDen: The free DLC is not on Desura, but there is a thread somewhere that give the Desura players the links to get the DLC even when it is not on Desura. Aparently it should work, but you also need 1.0.11 for it to work, so even if you can get the DLC that way, you cant use it.

That is correct. Desura users wait and wait with no version 1.011 in sight. The Linux version is updated, however.

I could be wrong, but it seems like they are setting up a page for the NameIt pack on Desura instead of just tossing the expansion2 folder into the main zip file (for standalone users like myself) or slipping it into the installer. I believe the confusion involved here is with the fact that it's a free product and special arrangements must be made with Desura to set that up. I'm just speculating by reading between the lines, but there are other threads here which go into this subject a bit deeper...and with more fire and brimstone. >: O

I really don't know where the convenience factor exists for the users with this method of digital distribution. There's no box, there's no manual, there's no stores to pay off...you simply upload a new zip file and change out the old one. Simple, right?. Well...

You have contractual obligations, legal issues, separate product titles and IP, distribution site stipulations and timeliness, along with a GNU add-on made by Steam users in the mix. The road is completely paved for the Steam crowd, but everyone else gets swamped with technical crud in a journey of muck and mire.

  6. I suspect lot of people are raging about the lack of 1.0.11 version and the free DLC on Desura, but you cant do anything to speed things up. All that raging have no purpose.

As you said, there a lot of problems and barriers a independent programmer must overcome in order to publish their games.

    It's all a bit of a mess.

As I noted in the other thread, I got an automated e-mail from Desura saying that they'd be "back in touch with me within 48 hours." Not sure if that's business hours or what.

Welcome to doing business as an indie developer. :(
One is always at the mercy of publishing houses and their competence or lack thereof, in pushing out content to buyers.

What is even more baffling is there is no real way to contact Desura to speed things up a bit. You are virtually thrown into a general forum where users discuss everything from PayPal chargebacks to someone's game playing upside down on the monitor.

I'd hate to think of an identity theft on that site where the crooks rack up a $4k bill before they wake up at 1pm at get to the office and help out. I've had no problems with GamersGate and even less problems dealing direct; I miss the times of old.

Dear lord, will you put the harp down? We get it, you're upset, but we don't need to see your second-class-citizen flag in every goddamn thread. GLG is already doing what they can: pestering the Desura people to put up 1.0.11 which they sent them at the same time they shipped the Steam version..

Shardz it may be worth your time to just buy the steam version, it's been on sale for awhile.

In fact, i have four free copies. I'd be happy to send you one.

I extend the same offer to you, Fausto

I think Shardz will not take you up on that offer.
I think he'd rather be impaled by Vlad. :)

Thanks, though. I appreciate the offer and it's quite kind, but I'll have to tough this one out until next week me thinks.

  14. @Ruigi: It would really great if you can do that kidness for me. I do not want to abuse your generosity but if it doesnt generate any economic stress in your wallet I would like to accept the offer. :)

EDIT: It sounds confussing, so in resume I do not want to cause any "trouble" to you by accepting the offer, but I would like to accept it.

It's not really fair to blame Gaslamp for Desura's inability to accomdate the developer's needs.

I don't know why you dislike steam so much, but the fact that steam has all of the expansions in working order is a sign that Steam is more functional and a better service than Desura. The bottleneck is on Desura's end, not Gaslamp.

Let me put it this way: Gaslamp isn't going out of it's way to be mean to Desura users. Desura is simply not interested in doing what's necessary to release the content on thier distribution platform. Again, Gaslamp can only do so much to move that process along. They have the product packaged and ready to ship, but Desura is not ready to recieve it.

Stuff like this does nothing but dissuade Gaslamp from doing business with Desura--though i don't know enough about their sales figures to make a comment on thier behalf.

By the way fausto, enjoy your new copy of Dod+RotDG on Steam, I now have only three free copies to give away.

  16. Thanks! I am enjoying it a lot. The free DLC is pretty neat and the balanced core skills rock. :)
