As far as I understand, Guild Membership is given out when you have bought the web version. Which I have, I have a guild account. This gives you access to some voting features too, but other than that it doesn't seem different from buying it in desura. They also sent me a desura key automatically when it came out.
The problem here is that I bought the game without being warned that I was buying what would have to be literally looked at as an extended demo. Had I known that I would have spent the same money to buy the guild account. Here is a direct quote of the help about the Guild accounts on the Wazhack site. "If you are not a guild member, you will eventually meet Waz the Hacker, who will try, quite effectively, to slay you if you try to go deep into the dungeon. You can think of non-membership as a generous demo mode. " https://wazhack.appspot.com/help/guild.html And for anyone wanting to check it out on the Desura forums, there is almost no possible way you could miss the topic, but here is a direct link. http://www.desura.com/games/wazhack/forum/thread/question-about-guild-stuff Since I see no means to vote, I presume that I have no guild account, or there are no votes being held currently.
Hey Omni, it says on the BUY page at wazhack.com/buy that if you buy the Desura, you can "connect your account at Desura" to get access to the web version (quote because, having never used Desura, I have no idea what that means). But, it would seem, that if you connect your account to the web version, you would be able to play the whole web version, hopefully with all the features that the web version only users were getting (would only make sense).
You can. And I have. But as I said, the one remaining question I have is weather or not I will encounter Waz the Hacker later on for not buying the correct version. It is not really worded in a way that makes it clear. In fact I am unsure if I have a guild account automatically or just a standalone account that will eventually spawn an unkillable monster that will instagib me on sight. As I said in the original post, I do not want them to give me what I did not pay for. I just want a clarification on what exactly I bought. And what others should buy.
No, I'm pretty sure it counts as if you have a guild account. As I said, they sent me a Desura key which is the same thing you got, and I never bought it on Desura. There's no difference.
I just got insta-murdered...but not by Waz...by a python...don't let them touch you or you'll get "constricted." Its WAY worse than it sounds LOL...
From the mouth of Mr. The Hacker himself: [18:10] <@Waz> Dungeons of Dredmor was one of my inspirations. Not in the direct sense - I saw it and thought "no, that's not how you do a modernized NetHack!". I'm sure it's a great game (as is NetHack still), but I wanted to do things differently. [18:12] <DragonDai> Speaking of Desura, do people who buy thru Desura have a guild membership, or are they gana encounter...well...you...later one? [18:14] <@Waz> Yes, they just "Connect" in Desura and it generates a web account. [18:14] <@Waz> (I really need to make the reverse work too, but it's a bit more complicated) [18:15] <DragonDai> lol, totally, but thanks for clearing that up, my friend will be super happy to hear that This is all from the #wazhack irc, where Mr. The Hack hangs out all the bloody time, apparently. So yeah, there you go, Omni EDIT: And, actually, Waz the Hacker has actually been removed and replaced by a little box that pops up when you try to go down past 400 feet and disallows you to move down to 400 or below. So if you've ever past 400 feet, then you're certainly good to go.
I have been down past 1200' and never saw the Hacker. Good thing too. Thanks for the clarification. That page on the Wazhack site needs updated to reflect this. I hate IRC, but I may have to head over and spew my thoughts on this little issue. And perhaps ask why Elbereth is not available.
What ICR server? I may have to poke in and say my part about Elbereth after thanking him profusely for modernizing Nethack.
uhm...I am a IRC newb, but I connect using the same thing we use, quakenet or whatever, to channel #wazhack and yeah, just got to level 13...and my game froze...OH THE HUMANITY!
Did you submit a bug report? The game is still essentially a beta. A very nice and fairly stable beta, but beta nonetheless.
oh well, no, couldn't do anything once I froze, but I could send my corrupted save game to Waz, he's looking it over right now...
Cool. You may well have helped narrow the possibilities of that happening to myself and everyone else. Thank you. I had a minor bug too. But by the time I got to remembering I should report it I had forgotten the specifics that would make my report worth bothering with. Honestly I do not recall what it was exactly now... My memory sucks. And I could swear that I had checked my score and saw 19K and some change. But when I was done and checked the scoreboard for the day, I was at 10K and some change. I discounted reporting this since it is fully possible I misread it. I am paying close attention to this detail now.
I am REALLY loving this game though, LOTS of fun And a tip from Mr. The Hax, Romans are not to be f-ed with...just sayin...
I wanted to mention... I have not played DoD since I started my little Wazhack marathon. I loves me some Nethack. And this is close enough, but better in many ways since it is more of a Coffee-Break game than a year long excursion. All things considered, I have played more Nethack and Slash'Em than any other game by literal years. Not counting any time during the day that I was not playing the game nor the time I slept and ate and everything else, I probably spent several years time actually in the game in my life. Conversely, I have so far spent months playing DoD. (Again, not counting time spent doing anything but mashing keys and such in the game itself.) I am just now remembering half the awesome stuff from Nethack. Equip a cursed weapon and have no means to remove it? Rub a lamp. I would like to ask what those of you playing wish for. (Should I make a new thread for this?) My Primary wish for any caster is "Blessed Spellbook of Identify" and for my few melee characters it is "Blessed Gloves of Power". I have been surprisingly lucky at times and about 10% of my mages find the GoP themselves. Even if cursed I will wear them. I also grease every armor and weapon I actually use. This is important for several reasons. (No spoilers here unless you ask.) My favorite choice for a character is a White Witch. 8 Strength, 11 Dexterity, 10 Constitution, 18 Intelligence, 18 Wisdom, 10 Charisma. Anyone have some advice for this game?
Oh by the way. I need to see if all the usual Nethack stuff can be wished for. For those who do not already have it bookmarked, here is a spoiler. http://nh.gmuf.com/wish.html
Oh, yeah, this game...I love it...Waz just fixed my corrupted save and gave it back to me on the spot...like 30 minute turn around time...bloody amazing...And I helped fix a bug with levitation too!
