Before I ask questions though, I should probably make it clear I have DoD by way of Steam, and am stuck with a Vista. Also, all these issues are in the limits of mods and when I refer to a general area I mean to say, in the case of mods, not the game without mods. I've looked around to the best of my ability to find solutions to the issues on my own, but I failed to find a real solution. Issue 1: Skill Passive Effects Don't Apply Although all skill and abilities show up effectively in the skill menu in game, none of their passive effects apply. Spells work fine, buffs effects apply correctly for the most part, but all Abilities don't apply to the character passively. This includes effects like 1 or 1 or 5 or 1 , that however can be worked around easily just by making skill trees that are more spell oriented. The big issue is that leveling up the skill doesn't apply the bonuses of leveling up, as you usually gain a point in rouge, wizard, or warrior that ups your primary stats. In the end the issue simply means using any mod content that I make, or download from here, will not apply any passive benefits making the skills rather unplayable. I have discovered however mods from the steam workshop do not cause these issues and work perfectly. So I'd be fine with that if it weren't for issue number two. Issue 2: "Can't talk to Steam Workshop! Is the Steam Client running?" After following several different explanations on how to upload to the Steam Workshop it always came to the same end asking me if my steam workshop was running, I've tried running just about everything as administrator and nothing changed. I've even gone so far as to turn off all my internet security before attempting. Issue 3: Trigger when struck on a buff doesn't like directly calling another buff In what I believe is in a completely unrelated note.. <playerHitEffectBuff percentage="100" name="Swiper No Swiping"/> Lets say that line is in a buff that's active on you, so long as "Swiper No Swiping" is calling a spell that doesn't directly place a buff it works fine, if however "Swiper No Swiping" calls a buff of any kind directly onto the player, it doesn't trigger ever. Easy work around is just to have "Swiper No Swiping" be a spell that calls another spell which applies the buff, but it's just weird and I was wondering if I'm the only one experiencing the issue or if I'm just making some dumb mistake on it. (And yes, I had intentions of making a "Swiper" skill in reference to Dora the Explorer, because... awesomeness.) So if anyone knows any answers to my issues.. they would be greatly appreciated.. because I have many.. many issues.
1) This happens whenever you give a single skillset both an id="34" and a skillName="Shinola". Choose either the id number or the skill name, don't use both. 2) You have to open Steam (like, have the icon in your taskbar) before the -publisher tag will work. 3) No idea, never had this problem. Sorry. Paste up the code?
1) I FEEL OH SO INCREDIBLY STUPID! Although, I am 100% sure that I wasn't using both. I was only using skillName rather then any ID number whatsoever, used the find tool to make sure. Swapping each entry to use the id number instead of skillName made things work though. So, thank you so freaking much for telling me about that. 2) Well, that's one thing I made sure of actually, although question 1 may have suggested otherwise, I'm not completely ignorant as to not follow the basic instructions given by the popup with the whole "Can't talk to Steam Workshop! Is the Steam Client running?". I'm really more just wondering if someone else had figured out a work around after having the same problem but if someone who knows as much about this kinda as I'm sure you do doesn't know of any past people complaining about a similar issue, I'm either making some terribly stupid and obvious mistake like usual or my computer is just doing stupid things like always. You solved issue 1 for me though so I personally can't say I care too much about not being able to upload to steam. 3) Heh.. about that... I just now resolved that it was totally me making a dumb mistake.. again. I probably made some end-of-the-world typo when I made the buff. Not sure what I did wrong, but when I called a different buff spell in the same fashion it worked fine. Don't you hate it when you do something wrong trying to figure out why it doesn't work for so much you decide to ask about it, and right after asking you manage to figure out the answer on your own, and the answer makes your question look stupid? Yeah... Muchas Gracias Amigo! It is good to know there's people like you around here who are willing to actually help people out and answer questions. A rare thing to find these days.
I've only been modding DoD for two days, and so far both of my days have gone like this. As soon as I bother to ask, I find the answer.
To answer number two: Pop open Steam, right click on Dungeons of Dredmor in your library and hit "properties". In the window that appears, click on "Set Launch Options..." and punch in "-publisher". I'm relatively sure that this works every time, as opposed to the shortcut method which works sometimes maybe?
Vista is paranoid, so you may have to run the publisher shortcut as an administrator to get it to work. I did.
