So, I wanted to make a few things and I came here. And then I lurked. And then I failed at doing it on my own (at least without proper direction, the basic tutorial slightly confuses me on the mod wiki, or I'm just not staring hard enough at it, kind of lackadaisical aren't I?). First things first. Is it possible to mod the hero's model/animations? I wanted one of the skills to, possibly, change the hero/sacrificial lamb's appearance when selected (or maybe have a third option, male, female, abomination). *shrug* an outlandish idea that I'll inquire about anyway! Surely, nothing can go wrong. On to the actual ideas/skills I had in mind. Most of these are just silly, but what the flannel, right? ------------------- Abomination: "Your father was a troll whoring sheep buggerer, or so you'd like to believe to make yourself feel better, the truth is, you suffer from a case of the shingles, radiation sickness and generic sub-par natural disease. Better known as you're a monster." A skill tree that centers around losing a few pounds- I mean stats, for resists and other stats. Warrior-archetype that'll make being a mage difficult, it's a support skill, though its activated abilities would allow for melee characters to have range or area attacks. Abominations and you: vol. 1 Science has done something terrible! You! (Technically, you don't exist, which means when you hurt people, it stings that much more) -1 -1 +2 +1 Beauty with(in) a beast You've managed to gain your people's trust- by wooing someone prettier than you, which clearly makes you prettier by association. Too bad people can't believe you don't look like a diggle's grafitti piece anymore. -2 Grants a passive that gives something akin to When you kill things When you take damage, stacks up to three times Believe in me.. Who believes in you~! You no longer suffer from delusions that you need to exist to be useful. You think, therefore you slam +3 +2 +1+2+1 Awesome power This hand of yours shines with an awesome power! Namely your love, your anger and all of your sorrow. It kind of confuses you. Inflicts heavy damage on a single enemy- on a cooldown. medium mix of May inflict burning or spawn a toxic cloud. Or maybe a timed buff for your auto attacks. Impressionist You've become so comfortable with your condition by now that you can inflict damage by simply making others believe that you're impressive. Damages enemies in a large circle around you and grants a bonus. Increases the chances of triggering Beauty within. Mutating into a person How horrible, you appear to be normal now! (Much to your delight, this is far from the case) +1+1+1 to your regular attack, and a ranged "fireball" that deals in an area, buffs you by on activation but and suffers, up to a cap- to balance out a short cooldown. Abominations and you: the collected works You allow yourself to exist, by virtue of having written a book about it. Books can't possibly lie. All of these take a small buff. (also gives you a copy of Universal principles/or a book made specifically for this skill) -------- "Well couth mutant" skill tree: Bane of Dr. Ama and The Queen You don't remember so much of your early days as an uneducated animal, which is good, considering you had to kill the horrific monster of Queen Valley and its creator to evolve into something intelligent. Shame you're built like a scarecrow +1+1 -1 and a dragon's breath style attack I haven't quite decided on yet. Probably . Stop whining You tell them, you tell them you can't stand this incessant whimpering! so your most ensible solution is make them whimper some more by raking your nails across the dungeon blackboard. Deals damage in an area around you, namely and grants +1+1 as you cannot be as much harmed by your own shenanigans nor their slightly burning comments concerning your mother. I won't bite, hard. Careful dental plans for gentlemenly abominations include biting, hard. Grants and makes your teeth pearly white. Life, The universe, and pretty pictures. Plebians cannot comprehend the vast knowledge you gathered while attending school - 42 hours and you graduated at the top of your academy. Weighted argument You point out things that are wrong, frequently, as such you can protect an area with the fiery arguments that prove you are right. Create a wall that deals on impact, and to all passing enemies since for a period of time. also grants . Balanced diet A gentleman balances his diet, by performing acrobatics. You're still built like a stick, though. -1 +2 and a chillingly apathetic lightning bolt at a location that can be called out of seemingly nowhere. Deals and sometimes leaves a field that deals . Or something. Lizard overlord You just keep on mutating into something so well mannered, when people refer to our secret lizard overlords, it's generally just people seeing you in doubles, without your mask on. and a slightly better version of the friendly wyrmling from promethean magic. Eastern Diggle Instructor The fabled eastern diggles are under your command, you promised to train them after all. Shame they're so far away you can't really call upon them for combat. Luckily, you know how to attack like one! On melee hits and a spell that deals in a large area and can spawn toxic gas every once in an eternity (though very low chance. ------- I'll work out a few more suggestions, I have quite a few in my head but they're honestly kind of stupid- even by "allowed by dredmor standard" (or completely overpowered, not unlike these two has a chance to be unless I'm careful with balancing (if I do it)).
(Here's an example of a pretty bad idea) Snarky Youth. You're one of those darn kids. You don't get off people's lawns, instead, you use these lawns to play with other, equally annoying children. Playing hookie You leap around when you find that you can't stand the people who try to make you do things properly, such as dungeon math teachers. Sometimes, this makes you harder to find. (small chance for stealth). No, you. You often deliver snarky lines about peoples parents, you're so original. + Bro, dude, bro. You explain to these other guys why you can't be hurt by their insults. You're totally radical and such. You totally hate being told to shut up, though. + - Give and take, then take some more. The force is krong with you, as such, you become slippery, care less and learned about talking to people's hands, mostly yours. + on kill: buff, stacks a few times Magic, *snort snort*. You tell people that the secret to your success, is faaaar out, maaaaaan. You're now a hippie. But still pretty snarky. +1 and and a cooldown ability giving you Cease and resist, man. You fight authorities now, by not lifting a finger. + Chan Diploma You recall going to the #chan, as they say. Before you fought the "powah". As such you stop falling for traps, and you know how to avoid trolls (and other basement dwellers). +
Feedback would be lovely. seeing as this is just idea. And I have a feeling some of this might be over powered. Or subject to being split into more skills with less stats on each, so that you can have more choices. But I wanted to at least show some direction (and, uh, well, let's face it, snarky youth is just awful, stat-wise. Overpowered support tree.
Well it is possible to give a custom sprite to a polymorph skill. Changing the actual hero's animations I'm not entirely sure, someone more experienced than me could say. The female character ones are simply PNGs so you should be able to but the male character ones I don't think so.
You could replace either of them as .spr's are basically compressions of pngs and xmls, which you could replace the sprs with. But of course you couldn't ever flip to a new version of the character without polymorphing which has other problems.
I was thinking more in general (if it was possible). Like run it through a mod which changes the general model/animations. So that sounds like a (albeit difficult) yes. It doesn't have to be to a tee, after all. Though a polymorph could work wonders. Speaking of which I should make a polymorph tree, too. Or at least consider it. More ideas, smashing! Edit: gonna change that picture to a link instead. hopefully it doesn't take up half the page with its disturbingness http://25.media.tumblr.com/tumblr_ly5wrccz781qiczoho1_500.gif
Also, I'd need some pointers. Scripting isn't my strong suit but I'm starting to get a little insight into how it works with DoD. Though, I am still kind of clueless vs the names and numbers you'd use to script effects. Haha. I should stick to terrible drawings. Should, but won't.
More ideas! I can't choose just one! (though, I probably should when I get underway proper-like) Skill tree centered around crowd control, or at least positioning of you and your enemies alike. Not sure what archetype this'll function by. Maybe I'll make a variant for eah archetype that does different things? Maybe. If. Whatever. Lady of the land, lord of the manor. Contrary to popular belief, the dungeon dredmor currently inhabits is your basement, its monsters, rebelling tenants/peasants, and dredmor himself, failed to pay his rent, you're here to kick him out once and for all, provided the grass-people give you their boons to get rid of awful sounds late at night. Notice of eviction Your tenants are a rowdy bunch, sometimes you just have to evict them- Forcibly, into other tenants. Pushes an enemy (or two) back, dealing damage and doubly so if it hits another enemy. Knock the air out of them with a bit of , leaving them speechless. Baronetta You are given a sword, more like a knife, with which you claim lordship of an area. You can now also root enemies for moderate . Loan Snark You're willling to postpone payment for one of your tenants- which makes them feel so good that they like rubbing it in the other tenants' faces. You somehow occationally end up with more gold from this ordeal. Charm spell on a medium-long cooldown, only one enemy at a time, and last as long as you want it or until you re-cast (small chance to trigger a potion of midas-effect). Possibly I'll balance this with some resist lost/boost. Knight makes fight You suppose it makes you right as well, when you beat your enemies into submission. As a lord (or lady), however, you're standing up for your honour. Namely, you're giving wet willies to people who wanted to steal the pie you left in the window last weekend. , because it's so shameful. May spawn an acidic field, however, be careful! Benificent maleviolence Sometimes you can't help yourself, you get angry. However, this is for your tenant's own good. Stat boost relevant to whatever archetype I end up picking, also chance of creating a brittle buff of some sort Deadline You want them out by caturday! Also, cats will now aid you (not that there are any, unless you're a crazy cat person, or a cat). Shout out, dealing light damage and increasing damage enemies near you take, stacks 2-4 times, just incase you wanted to remind them. Royal fingerwaggler You've gotten a real title this time, not just the kind of title you get by having money to buy a house so you can rent smaller houses that aren't actually your house. Oh and you're better than knights now, too. Namely: you're the sassiest sip in all the kingdom's winecellars. Magicians are somehow involved. More stat boosts, I think minor ones, because you'll get a skill called fingerwaggle, which deals random exotic damage. (assuming random choice of damage types is at all possible) ----------------------------- Additionally, from all the stuff I'm gonna end up putting here, I will have to pick only one or two, at least as a starting point. I want to hear which ones (not nessecarily now, or for only the things posted up until now, but later as well) you'd want me to do the most. Such as trying to figure out if I can change the hero model, or a skill tree.... Or come up with something and see what I make out of it! Such as suggesting wanting me to do a polymorph centered tree, instead. (which I'm going to but I really have no other ideas for it other than just for cosmetics... though I suppose I could do something like "secret lizard ninja daimyo" or something) Feedback in general is also welcome, I'm not about to force people to play favorites.
If you're trying to learn how to mod while putting one together I'd recommend starting with an easier one. You have better odds of not getting frustrated and getting it done. =) The "Snarky Youth" looks like a reasonable starting point.
Yes, well, I wouldn't release it anyway until I've certain it at least does what I think it should be doing. Excellence through adversity and all that. Snarky youth was also kind of a shot at internet kids that think they're grown ups. And frat boys. I'm a meaaaaaan person But, uh, yeah, it kinda does I guess. though I should probably change it to be a pure resist tree with some minor abilities. For instance I'd rename Playing hookie to: "Grundo goes where he pleases" And now, so do you! - but only in dungeons
Oh boy. Yeah uhm wow, I'm alive again. After over half a year. On account of y previous computer dying and trouble with the new one. Between that, studies, and a promotion I haven't had time to work on this stuff after I lost most of the work a little before christmas. And I've completely forgotten to take it up again on account of writing stuff. Haha. God I hate myself xD
