I respectfully disagree. I have seen the "Perfect playthroughs" of certain console games. They were made using a combination of ultra-low speed gameplay and savestates every quarter second. If they ever make a mistake they reload the nearest savestate and continue. I imagine this would be required for these games too.

"Perfect playthroughts", maybe, but it's possible to complete them normally even on the highest difficulty levels without that; you just need to forgo trying to go for the highest score.
And what matters most is, in case of these games, practice and patience, so if you are the kind of person who never liked that genre to begin with, you won't get "good".

But we are digressing, so I'll leave it at that.

What about Magic Resistance? And Reflection? Don't those work against Fulminaric Bolt, or at the very least the Stun component? I would hope it'd resist the stun component, even if not the damage.

One thing we could do is include sources of Debuff Immunity, which is exactly what it says on the tin. This would obviously be a lategame thing, and something that would be very short-lived. 4 turn buff of it, or something like that. This is also obviously ripped from DotA's Magic Immunity, but at least it wouldn't block the damage.

Unless it did. We could do that. It'd have even more potential to be overpowered, though.

It cancels stun. I don't remember if it decreases the damage or not (it's been over a week since I actually played DoD), but with 100 magic resistance you shan't be stunned.

Okay, see, the problem here is, you're basing your opinion of how regular gameplay works, off of videos of NSGNSNCNONENNENBB runs.

Bullet hell is hard and rage-inducing, I'll grant you. But it's not (usually) I Wanna Be The Shrine Maiden.

Resisting halves damage and cancels debuffs. Haywire bypasses resisting, however.

You're done for without a good amount of voltaic and magic resistance, block, and/or reflection anyway if you face Dredmor and can't control the battlefield. That said, holy hand grenades and bolts of mass destruction solve a lot of problems very fast. Grab all the mirror shields you find on the way down, or in a shop. You'll get fried otherwise just at the hands of the little minions.

edit: That said, beta testers, I'm hungry for expansion info again. How good is the item variety as introduced in the new xpack? Any effort to introduce armor that doesn't turn magic power into a piece of poo? All this and more, I would like to know. And goddamn MAGNETRONIC EQUIPMENT. Is there any more of it?

I dunno, I never really notice the effects of BoMD. Ever. On any characters.

Like, the blast effect only does 1/3 of my melee damage, as a mage, and requires a clear line through which to travel.

Lines in this game are a crapshoot, too; if you've got a wall or other solid object above you whilst disarming a gargoyle trap to your right, the arrow will hit the obstacle, but if the trap's to your left the arrow hits you instead.

"You'll get fried otherwise just at the hands of the little minions." Wait, what?
In all the times I've played this game, the only thing on Floor 15 that caused me a challenge when I got there was Dredmor himself.
    There were no overpowered minions.
    What do you mean?

He doesn't spawn with monster followers. He might spawn in a room with monsters, but they're not going to all spam attack spells at you.
And I have never ever used magic reflection in this game except for the few times I've worn one sparkling glove.
Why would I, as a melee based dual-wielder, ever use a shield, when I can do over 130 damage with two Flail of Peladies? That would be madness.

While I've never HAD any deaths in 8 runs out of 9 that I've played so far, I think you're forgetting that some minions still hurt on the lower levels. YMMV. Snow Baals came as a nasty shock to me when I first played the game (and died on level 10's zoo for my trouble) for instance. Having a collection of mummies spamming their eldritch inhabitation spells hurts more than you think just as an example.

    Ah. Yeah. That's true.
Snow Baals and Big Reds can be countered by having 27 or so AA. :)
    You're right though.

Because sometimes you encounter monsters that have spells you don't want to get hit by, and then it's more optimal to have to hit two or three times instead of just once, but in exchange be shielded from whatever voodoo they throw at you.

Even when playing characters that have Dual Wielding, there are still moments when I take two of the biggest shields I have and pelt something with projectiles instead of trying to get close; it's safer that way, and on higher difficulty levels safety is more important than damage output (most of the time, at least).

The most annoying attacks ever I've run into are the corpse explosion skill of mummies.
And the skill that creates noxious brimstone spam.
I can't imagine Going Rogue ramps up other skills to be even more dangerous than that.
Even Pumpkinn's spamming of that one attack of theirs isn't too hard to resist.

Oh, wait, the stupid Djinn and Octo spamming of that one attack that does 7 damage on the 3rd floor?
Seriously, that was overpowered for that floor.

24 hours to go, 36 if you're like me and are prudently adding on a 12-hour pad for any issues to be sorted.

WHY WE NO HAVE EXPANSION YET

I thought "mandatory QA testing" was half the fun!

Ah, I still remember that n-dimensional lathe...

Besides, no bugs can keep me away from hoarding all items everywhere for any length of time.

Any chance that with the coming of two new weapon skills, the weapon skills themselves are no longer hardcoded into the game?

So, tomorrow it will come out. When exactly will Steam update it?
