This seems a bit overpowered. is, by far, the best damage type in the game. Making a skill tree about it without HUGE downsides (see: radiant wizard, which did it right) isn't the best idea.
I really wanted to have it use as that makes the most sense for a paladin in my strange little brain. I'll tweak stuff and see where it goes.
Minor Smoting (Buff): Reduced damage to: 1 [scaling ] Added debuff components -5, -5 "Smoted (Spell): Reduced damage to: 3 [scaling ] Added debuff components -10, -10 Fanatical Attack (Spell): Increased self damage to: 10 [scaling ] to self. Innate Zeal (Buff): Added debuff components -10, -10 Reduced damage to: 4 [scaling ] Items tweaked to be less good.
I think it should be "smiting" and "smitten" instead of "smoting" and "smoted". I might be wrong in this particular case, though.
I think the past tense is smote, the continuous is smiting - smitten means to be 'in love', however, so... but I wholly endorse the mistakes regardless, because it makes the OCD rage, and religious fanaticism is all about being OCD to the point of violence about religious details.
I thought it was supposed to be an adjective, in which case "smitten" is correct. Whatever. It also means to "be in love", I dare say. Whatever. My OCD says it's a stupid idea, but if that's a name chosen for it, then it's just a name chosen for it, not point in raging.
Nah, leave it be. As AllurlewtsRbelongtome said, it's just a word used for your skill, it doesn't really have to be a real word that makes sense in context, and furthermore, it will make people who can't stop their OCDs rage which is always a plus.
