So I'm working on a mod that in a way gives you a new way to craft stuff. The first ability would generate the raw materials, and later skills would let you use that stuff to craft things. So I'm wondering if this spell type thingy works like that, targeting a specific item. And if it does, would it only take one, or multiple of them? I need to know if my idea will work before I give my artist friend a bunch of work :3
I believe they're still working on implementing consumptions like this, though even that may be optimistic.
Any known workaround, or should I just experiment? I can always just use tinkering and hidden recipes I suppose.
It depends on how many recipes are supposed to be there. If there's just a few of them, your best bet is to make them hidden and give them one by one as players progress through that skill tree. And if there's a lot of them, on the other hand, then your best bet is making these recipes available from the start, but depending on when they should be accessible from, making them use an item that is crafted from just the item you can spawn (recipe for which would be hidden and only available once you progress into the skill tree far enough) instead of the originally spawned item.
Thanks, this was my original idea after I saw the gas mask thingy that rougue scientist has, I just thought it would be more interesting if you had to use a skill to craft them. That and the fact that if they're hidden players could accidentally unlock them from shelves right?
Yes, they could. But the chance of them getting both a recipe and a randomly dropped item for that is very small. So small that the game might as well just give them the crafted item (heck, it would be more likely for the crafted item itself to spawn, and the chance of that happening is small).
Actually the item will only be obtainable by the first skill in the tree. My worry was if you're using the skill you could accidentally get one of the later recipes. I'm dumb, I can just have the new skills give you a new version of the crafting item for the new recipes. This is starting to feel like that rune mod. >_>
