Best Summon in the game?

I'd assume it's from the Golemancy tree, that robot thing, but I want to make a Killer Vegan summoner or something like that and spend the rest of my points maxing attack with Polearms or something.
And an early skill summon is great too, because then I can put points into Killer Vegan and sstuff extra early. (Like Zomby)

Any suggestions, or a mod that would add something like this?

The fungal arts slime has saved a squishy crafting-type Hero many times for me.

But personally I think Wyrmling is the best summon in the game. Maybe it's not as tough at the robot, but it's only mid-way up the (already solid) tree, flies, and inflicts/soaks a decent amount of damage

The are all pretty much equal in terms of usefulness. Yes, the robot has the most hp and damage but they all have the same AI and enemies will always attack a pet if they can instead of you. And none of them do great damage or have great hp past the first 5 floors.

The zombie is probably the worst because it requires a corpse so it can't be cast where you want it always and it does very little damage. And not being able to cast it where you want it is a big drawback.

I'd disagree, while one zombie by himself isn't too impressive. Nine of them on the other hand will chew right through a level 2 zoo like it's Dawn of the Living Dead.

Any summon will get you through the first few floors but tend to lose their usefulness in the deeper floors. The mortal machine is the strongest but even it can't compete past the 7th floor or so, and that might be generous.

The best summons are those that give you multiple bodies to hide behind. They might not last very long, but their numbers can buy you enough time to run or set up new tactics. Flesh-shaping gives you earliest access to a multi summon but it comes with the drawback of requiring corpses. Find some corpses though and you can have 9 zombies, more bodies than any other summon can provide.

Hunting Diggles from Big Game Hunter is another good one but is at the top of the skill tree. You could also try using Dark Pact for a mess of Swarmies but that comes with it's own complications.

Balancing cost with damage and tankability I'd say the wyrmling. He is very early into the promethean tree, deals aoe fire damage on summoning and even right up until the final floors he can take 2 or 3 hits before dropping

Best summon in the game really is Meet Interesting People now especially when combined with Plutonic Fist. Great damage and depending on who you make friends can have some great survivability too.

Question: Can meet interesting people occasionally call upon monsters from 1 floor lower, similarly to how deths can spawn in floor 1, robots can spawn in floor 2, and so forth? Even if not, I can clearly see your point, M.I.P. is easily the best scaling summon, if you could call it a summon(which I do).

It can, yes. Got an Unfriendly AI on level 2 once that went on to near solo half the entire floor.

  10. Yeah basically.

Summoned monsters LITERALLY DO NOT SCALE. This makes them all generally obselete eventually, and mostly only useful as distractions, ergo, more pets available is probably going to come out the best, and much better at making walls.

Also charm and Meet Interesting People does scale, which gives those a significant advantage. (Though I've noticed the AI refuses to target charmed monsters, which decreases their usefulness.)

Yeah it really would be nice if charmed monsters from bribes or vegan would count as proper summons as that would make them a hell of a lot more useful.

  12. Or psionics.

Though charm has AN advantage, which is that it takes a hostile monster out of the fight for a bit. (Well except in the case of Vegan) so even if the monster hardly does any damage, it can buy you time to get away and shoot fireballs at them. (It's the only way to be sure!)

But yeah if the AI relating to charm could be cleaned up a bit it would be much more useful. (Like currently charming spellcasters is entirely pointless. >.<)
