Could the gaslamp devs begin to consider, at some future point, making side-areas, each with their own theme, as part of a regular dungeon floor with their own entry and exit points? If you get it by now, I'm referring to the sort of thing you see in, say, Nethack. Let level 1 have, say, a Batty cave with a few higher level variants knocking about and a Blink Batty as the boss, for instance. Level 2 can have, say, an ancient crypt with lots of treasure and a tough boss fight - Say a Dead Head or Megadeth. It can provide much more replayability especially if you select such things from a pool of pre-made levels with some randomization.
this reminds me of the side areas in Sword of Fargoal. I would like something like this. it adds an element of mystery and discovery.
You can create your own rooms, just make a really huge one and set it to special so it spawns only once if at all. You wont be able to make it a monster zoo or a shop unless you want the whole huge area to be one.
I think what he meant was sort of like how in Nethack there are a few cases where the dungeon branches off, where going down one staircase will take you down the main path, while going down another staircase will take you to a small branch with some theme, such as the gnome caves.
Ah, I play zangband mostly and I don't think there are special stairways with special areas in them. I also haven't played zangband too recently as I have been having fun with a few different game DoD included.
They did have branches originally but rejected that idea (it probably wasn't exactly what you're suggesting but Urth brought it up)
Judging by something they said previously they're going to implement this kind of thing in the future.
wait, didn't you mention something like this in this thread? http://community.gaslampgames.com/threads/request-nonstandard-game-over-when-using-the-tourist-capstone-on-floor-1.4213/ This is where you mentioned you might do something about that request, though that might have changed. edit: then again I should have added 'probably' to that sentence so I'm sorry if I caused any confusion thereby.
