I'm trying to make a mod for those who want to be EVIL MAD scientists I need more ideas though (maybe a "good/pure" or technophobe mod sometime later?) Here are mine: Mad scientist -evil style - evil goatee with black twirly mustache and a lab coat (side effect, muttering random phrases, not shure how) -summon minion - summons a friendly lab-tehnician diggle or minion diggle -evil laugh - AoE damage, "They called me mad"buff . (chance to trigger evil gloating debuff on kills) -???inator ray - random effect missile, thinkering +1 (small chance of "wrong lever", damage to self) -incredulously intricate deathtrap - a trap that gives the target a brittle blank debuff that does big damage after 10 turns -big red button/doomsy day device (DDD for short) - 90% room wide random disaster, 10% random debuff -chain reaction/mad mathematic marvel/xantos roulette - random target.. ? need ideas. -overclock - something to constructs also something along these lines, but don't know what (maybe some spell gives a sight +1) see picture
Axis of Evil -or- League of Evil Mind Control Ray Overwhelming hubris Doomsday Device Very Slow and Diabolical Deathtrap. Just tossing some ideas out.
Mind controll ray would be included as an possible efect from ?inator ray, overwhealming hubris could be a chance to break into monologuing, trap is a great idea, but what would doomsday device do? Maybe a random room/level-wide catastrophe (like a thunder storm), but a chance to backfire (summon a raincloud above you, soaking you) PS:The goatee will definitely include a curly black mustache.
Evil monologue. Delayed effect, also debuffs you. (Possibly existential damage around you in a wide radius, like four turns after you cast it?) (Debuff is because the monsters know your plans now.)
I was thinking something along those lines, how about a debuff (because you're distracted) for the duration, but damage when your finished (your plan comes together)
Well I was just thinking you're monologuing at the target, so maybe a debuff (honestly you could even make it so you have to stand still without much trouble) while you, well, monologue, and then when you finish all the monsters around you's brains explode. (existential damage) (Actually you could probably turn delayed-effect spells into a theme, tying it into the death trap and the bizarrely intricate plan that may or may not involve your death and resurrection. (it does not 'cause we can't support that in mods ))
How about this: initiate Evil Monologue. Each turn for 8 turns, you gain a stacking bonus to your attack (in the form of damage at the beginning and then more and more interesting debuffs and special effects toward the later half) -- BUT if the 'good guy' interrupts your plan (i.e. you get hit), the Monologue ends with no effect.
I would think there should be some type of backfire effect of either Voltaic (Crossed wires)/Blasting (Oops dropped a beaker) /Existential (Self doubt sucks) and on summons of any kind (liking the summon minion idea but should also have some greater monster summon ala Frankenstein or possibly Digglestein!!) having a drawback would be summoning packs of villagers with pitchforks. Meshing in crafting bonuses of Alchemy and Tinkering somewheres (similar to Rogue Scientist cause its all about the scientific discovery... ya right...). Also liking the Evil Laugh (Maniacal Laughter sounds more ominous imo) but possibly make it a fear+AoE+Buff of somekind with gloating there would be a negative effect (debuff) as well I'd think too if possible (in hindsight I probably shouldn't have been gloating so much as not to see the traps laid ahead of me by the villagers with pitchforks...)
Actually it turned out into a mad scientist skill ,but maybe summoning a crafted robotic diggle could somtimes summon an angry mob. Actually, that's too hard, but good ideas anyway. Still have no idea what evil laugh would actually do. PS: I don't think any monster would be afraid of an evil laugh (maybe attracted)
Tourist has a spell which sometimes calls a friend pet and sometimes else an angry mob. You can give it a look.
True, maybe it would not work on constructs and oozes, and the write up could be something like, "Evil (Again I like Maniacal-sorry) Laughter booms outward from the mad scientist as if he/she was possessed by some great demon, chaos ensues!" I saw the mad scientist post after this storming one and I like it! I have a few questions/suggestions. 1. Mad science - You will show them, you will show them all! (free lab coat included) Starting Gear (Guessing you are making your own?) :Lab coat now with built in pocket protector , goggles (Tinkerers or even spectacles), gloves (something with Conflagratory, Acidic and or Toxic resist to it. Acid Flask for throwing and maybe a wand of Tesla (Wizard? Ha I say he was a mad scientist, consorting with Voltaic energy and diggles in that disturbing manner.. Hmm that gives me an idea!! ) or wand of laser (Both wands are expensive starting equipment though.) 2. Gadgeteer Genius - You are an official Pseudoantidisestablishmentarian, and know how to pronounce it. (you're smart but a little on the weak side) Edit (Even though physically weaker than most, your true power comes from your brain--) then something like (now if there was some safe way to release it) or (having the power of a god to rule the world or destroy it, wait am I for or against that?!!?) Bonuses/Drawbacks: +1 Tinkering, +Sagacity,+Savvy, -Burliness or just to Melee Power but Burliness seems right. 3. Minion master - Everyone knows even a genious can't do everything himself." (summons a diggle droid) Minion master - "Everyone knows even a genius can't do everything himself. Walk this way Master and I will tell you about it." (summons a non-impudent diggle droid minion) 4. ???inator - You bought this device at an ebay auction, but have no idea what it does. Only one way to find out. ???inator - You bought this device at an Digglbay auction, but have no idea what it does. Only one way to find out. (Maybe random wand effect on a 60-120 CD timer) However with DDD this seems a bit out of place. 5. Thinkerer - Overclocking sometimes has explosive and/or usefull results. (chance to explode/disasemble golems/robots) So something similar to Clockwork Knights Tech Scavenger? Why not (if possible) use both that and Rogue Scientists Salvage Ooze? Breaking Down- Them not me! Break down enemies into something more useful. (Chance to scavenge constructs and salvage Alchemical ooze from well oozes... Bonuses/Drawbacks: +1 Alchemy (if you go Salvage ooze- again when I think mad scientist I see beakers of acid/poisonous stuffs laying around, but thats just me.), +Haywire Chance. Then possibly + to Block (toughened hands from pulling constructs apart) and/or + vs toxic/acidic (scooping up alchemical ooze) and finally -Transmutative resistance (cause of messing with forces he/she hasn't fully investigated/experimented with yet. 6. Incredulously intricate dethtrap - An insidiously complex trap. (causes damage after 5 turns) I agree that this might be better suited for a crafting recipe unless you turn it into piercing damage (metal doohickey clamping onto the baddies legs ala bear trap to hold it in place) and again I bring up both acidic/toxic damage (something pouring over the caught creatures head) OR drop a block on them (wall) have it trap them and could do Asphyxiative damage for a duration. 7. Master plan - I have though out every possible outcome, that is unless some meddling kid interferes with it. (buff that enhances with kills, but is brittle) I like this one but would definitely have some kind of chance of a drawback, "This plan is perfect, what could possibly go wrong?" Drawback should be called either Jinx or Murphy's law Master plan - I have though out every possible outcome, that is unless those meddling kids and that pesky/darned doggerdiggle interferes with it. (buff that enhances with kills, but is brittle) "This plan is at it's finale, everything is comming together like a jig-saw puzzle."---- change to "I love it when a plan comes together." That way both Scooby Doo and the A-Team have a shout out. : ) 8. Doom's daze device - This devise channels probability, and causes improbable disasters to become a certanity. (causes a huge AoE, 10% to go wrong) I like this one and from what I see in the code you are having Blasting and Voltaic damage which is cool. Only thing I would change is maybe the description. "Borowed it from an old schoolmate, though it's a bit unstabile." change to "Not sure what it is, something CK found it in one of the labs." CK= Chris Knight (Val Kilmer) character from the 1985 movie Real Genius (CK was a mad scientist of sorts), where he had his friend taste something pink in a beaker which turned out to be yogurt. 9. Omnidisciplinary Scientist - Do you know how many degrees I have?! (boosts thinker, alchemy and wandcraft, also spell - chain reaction, that travels like a wave across monsters I like this as well but if you used some of my suggestions earlier then I would just add wandcraft for a complete set as to have +1 to tinker, wand and alchemy unless you want it to be a bit OP and have Omni also give +1 bonus to tinker/alchemy and wandcraft so as to have +2 in each. Also maybe up the scavenge and salvage % if you can at this point. Again he/she is showing off their brains which brings me to the second part of the ability, the chain reaction. Pointing up to beginning "Even though physically weaker than most, your true power comes from your brain." Chain reaction being a decent/long CD would be good as to not OP it. And what I see you are trying to work out in the coding with effects it seems powerful with multiple hits and such. Overall very cool concept. I very much look forward to being a Mad Scientist, /steeples his fingers. (Yes, a very mad scientist indeed!)
So, are we using this thread to talk about flavor and general ideas, while you talk about the code in the other one? I think this is a little too much, but it depends. If the first skill doesn't give you nothing more than equipment, it should be fine. Also for a tesla wand, or a laser one. Or both. Lolled. Meh. There are already core classes for those, it's not a good way to make a skill to rob directly from others. He could do a spell damage which hit only taxa="construct" and taxa="other". This also saves the players which wanna do a complete science man, with both mad scientist and rogue scientist. Lol. Uhm... 9 skill levels? Those are too much. I also support the "not too much craft levels" idea. Sweet tooth and rogue scientist are waiting for their little brother.
