Guys I feel like crying. I had a good run going with the build for this week's reddit challenge and when I went to load it up it was just... GONE. Two weeks now I've been unable to do reddit's dredmor challenge due to fails and this one is the worst. I DEF saved it (didn't click just quit). I'm wondering: 1. Is there anything I can do to recover it 2. What can I do to prevent this from happening again?
Re.1: Nothing. Re.2: Disable Steam cloud for DoD. There is a "config.xml" file in the directory one up from where you put mods (.../Documents/Gaslamp Games/Dungeons of Dredmor/"). Open this file and there is a line with "enableSteamCloud" and a value of 1 - change that value to 0.
Steam cloud is responsible for deleting your saves, because it synchronized them in the wrong direction.
I'm not disputing that. I'm curious as to what effect disabling steam cloud will have. I'd like to understand this change you are suggesting
Instead of occasionally synchronising when it shouldn't (replacing your game save with older saves or no saves at all) it just won't at all.
Far as i've seen, disabling steam cloud should have no impact if you only ever play Dredmor from the same computer.
Periodically go into My Documents/Gaslamp Games/Dungeons of Dredmor and make a copy of the save file in another location on your machine.
Would be a bit more user-friendly if Dungeons of Dredmor exposed the Steam Cloud option in its Properties dialog, as shown below, in addition to the flag in config.xml. Contrary to some reports the option is not limited to Source Engine games, because I've seen the option for games such as SPAZ, LIMBO, EDGE and BIT.TRIP BEAT. You wouldn't think all-caps titles have something to do with it, would you?
It used to be there, actually. (I wasn't aware it's not anymore) but it was broken and didn't actually work.
Last time I unchecked "do not automatically update this game", it would not even run :/ Then there was one that I turned that feature off while it was apparently partway through an update; after that whether it was on or off it would never finish that update, and steam kept the 30% green bar over its taskbar icon for a month until I uninstalled ~_~ I recommend the xml mentioned above.
