I don't have the 2 expansion packs yet, please keep that in mind. Then again, if I did, Clockwork Gauntlets would just worsen the problem! I tried to build the quintessential Clockwork Knight, I've got that skill and tinkering maxed, and enough Smithing to build myself Imperial Clockwork Plate. Here's my gear: Imperial Clockwork Helm Imperial Clockwork Plate 2 x Clockwork Ravagers 2 x Overclockedwork Power-Limbs Clockwork Regulator Belt Clockwork Actuators Clockwork Rail Launcher Rocket Boots Cybertronic Amulet Platemail Gauntlets (unique version) So what's the problem? Enemy Dodge Reduction is at the minimum of 5! Because of this I've been putting points into Perception, but I'm still 2 levels away from Second Sight and I don't know if it'll make enough of a difference anyway! How is this supposed to work when most of my attacks are being dodged?
Even when luck is with me and my attacks ARE landing, I still have to retreat sometimes. I guess I should try out my Thaumecha-kinetic Damper, still haven't touched it once haha. At char-creation, I didn't know that the ultimate clockwork weapon was an axe, so I don't have Axes. I have: Clockwork Knight (maxed) Tinkering (maxed) Dual Wielding (maxed) Smithing (2 points in it, enough to build Imperial Clockwork Plate) Assassination (3 points in it, needed to abandon this tree to work on Perception) Perception (1 point in it, need 2 more for Second Sight) Master of Arms (0 points in it) Now that I've gotten myself into this mess, any chance of redemption?
Doing a similar sort of build the Clockwork Inquisitor Axe Archery Shield Bearer Tinkering Smiting Clockwork Knight Demonology I'm unlikely to bring demonology beyond circle, hence the whole 'Inquisitor' thing... but if the going gets too rough he may be in for a 'fall' The second demonology ability proved a lifesaver when the first door I opened on DL 2 was a freaken zoo! but got it early in the zoo and it helped me push through to clear it.
If you're looking for a good CK build, these are the ones I use. Rocket Soldier Weaponskill (axe/mace) Dual Wield Clockwork Knight Smithing Tinkering Archaeology Fleshsmith Naval Officer (Goes great with Swashbucklers mod) Swords Dagger Dual Wield Clockwork Knight Smithing Tinkering Archaeology
I can say dual wield different kind of weapon is so fun and rich of abilities that the 2x of the same weapon doesn't seems pleasant anymore. Also, Irajacobs, try reaching lvl4 of Perception (considering lvl0, so 4 points invested into it), but consider dropping some piece of armor for more EDR.
I swapped out some of my gear for better EDR then I beat the pants off of Dredmor a few hours ago, didn't even have to get into melee, I had tons of holy handgrenades and clockwork buzzsaws to chuck at him, plus a few tentacle bolts. Finished him by landing on him with Charge of the Steam Brigade
That being said, I do think that's a pretty major problem with the gear designed for CK, and the EDR penalties should be lessened.
A few snap shots of my Clockwork Inquisitor going on a rampage... Bolstered by the protective circle of the order Thomas Gearen, Clockwork Inquisitor, takes a stand against an ocean of foes: His arm so tired he could hardly swing his axe anymore Thomas Gearen surveyed the battlefield, knowing another such horde awaited: Deeper in the dungeon Thomas Gearen encountered another horde, this one containing golems of pure magic, their corruptive touch the bane of many a clockwork knight, their armor and weaponry rendered more useless then a bowl of overcooked spaghetti. Sacrificing the shelter of the order's protective circle he opts for maneuverability, rocket fists, bombs and crossbow bolts all keeping the dangerous golems at bay. If you've enjoyed, I'll take note to grab some more screenshots of Thomas adventures... will he stay true to the order? Or will his quest require him to make dark pacts with the very demons he's sworn to battle?
This approach worked for me. Also, when you do hit, you hit hard. EDR is a deliberate penalty on clockwork gear for the sake of balance, because it's so awesome for Warriors otherwise (giving lots of amongst other things, which works wonders for throwing and certain Warrior skills).
Also note that with all that you can rocket jump pretty much with impunity. Have to say that a clockwork helm with 2x HUD and 2x mounted torch encrusts is pure Fing awesome.
Wound up giving up on the Clockwork Inquisitor build... no method of healing or even boosted health regen.... every DL was just getting slower, and sloower, and slooooower.
