And here's a few more novelty songs (I went through a novelty song phase starting way back when I was in College, listened to Doctor Demento religiously. Here's some songs that no one in his right mind ought to listen to (which means it's perfectly safe for most of us).
I have to say that 90 to 99% of the time, I end up turning off the music in most PC games within 2 minutes of starting to play that game. There have been a couple of notable exceptions. Here's a few tunes that you may be familiar with:
The Civ music that I posted made me think of movie music, for a lot of reasons -- that particular piece reminds me of Lawrence of Arabia my favorite movie of all time. It's certainly a movie that ought to be seen in a dark, quiet theater, on the kind of big screen that no longer exists at the cineplexes. Here's the overture (from a time when movies were treated like plays, and had overtures, and musical intermissions, and so on). Another great cinematic movie that I love is The Mission, with music by one of the greatest movie music composers, Ennio Morricone. It has one of the best classic movie soundtracks ever, imho. And as Ennio Morricone is one of my favorites, I can't leave you with just one piece. Here's the theme from "Once Upon a Time in the West", another really good movie with a great soundtrack.
All music in Need for Speed: Underground 2 is great too. And all Simcity 4 themes. ---- Imagine Dragons - Radioactive Woodkid - Iron Radiohead - Karma police Steve Ouimette - We three kings Those are the only rock songs I downloaded individually; rest is from music packs..
I listen mostly to progressive/electronic rock from the 1970's, such as Yes, Jethro Tull, Todd Rundgren and older Genesis...I do listen to some newer stuff such as Andrew W.K., the Protomen and Walk the Moon, though...
I used to listen to Jethro Tull quite a bit. "Thick as a Brick" and "Aqualung" both got played over and over a whole lot. Now you just made me nostalgic.
I'm quite into good pop these days, and I mean good. Pop isn't probably that good a description since it's not particularly popular, but it's in the musical style. The other stuff I listen to these days is weird electronic music. This guy sounds like he is straight out an 80's movie soundtrack, and it's awesome. Very warm and optimistic.
I'm not sure if Pop is a real style, more like a catch-all category for stuff that gets played on mainstream radio and TV. It's usually upbeat, love songs, etc. It overlaps with just about every category of music out there.
It just seemed funny that Createx said that the pop music he liked isn't very popular lol. I was kind of explaining that it wasn't a style.
