I think it's mostly the propensity to die on the first turn. But yeah, I think your description is right.
I bought it as well a week ago when it was on sale, and I honestly can't say I'm enjoying it. Which is weird, since I like Dominions 3 (though it helps to be playing it with people). It's just... bland I guess.
Oh, I forgot to convey my excitement about the game being pre-loaded. I'm not bothered about waiting until Tuesday for it to unlock, though admittedly I'd like to access the extras beforehand. It's BioShock Infinite I'll probably be more impatient about, though I genuinely couldn't say why.
I bought BioShock Infinite over at greenmangaming, due to price(and preorder bonuses). It's nearly 30% off compared to buying it on steam or gamersgate for me, and I got BioShock 1&2 thrown in as well.
Well for me the cost was 300 swedish crowns from greenmangaming(~ $45), and 418 swedish crowns from gamersgate(~$65), meaning it was 28.2% cheaper from greenmangaming, though granted in the long term, with future purchases for blue coins, gamersgate is slightly better value. I went with saving it now instead of later.
Fair enough. I bought the Season Pass at the same time. £45 on BioShock Infinite. Yup. *Twitch* They better send me Elizabeth's dress. NOW. I want it so bad...
I thought the first Bioshock had a cool art design and world, but the gameplay was not my thing. Essentially, I got frustrated with it fairly early -- I think I gave up after umpteen deaths at the hands of some boss. Did I say I don't like repeating content, and that Umpteen is an awful lot of times to die before frustration overcomes stubbornness. I've started going through the tutorial for Dominions 3, and realized that I was off-script fairly quickly (not sure if that was an error in the text or in me -- I'll guess it was me lol). Also I got interrupted a few times and that didn't help. I'll have to start it again this evening. Still, I'm liking what I'm seeing. The interface could use some updating, but I guess it takes getting used to. And altitis has taken over in GW2 -- have my entire roster of characters filled up and want to try others *sigh*. My main is about 40(ish). and still have not been able to do a dungeon (I've come to the conclusion that my guild sucks). Now I really would hate posting on the forums because it would be obvious to the guy who recruited me that I'm jumping ship, and that's so damn awkward. I think that when I said I was 'ultra-casual', that people read that and saw 'dead' instead.
BioShock was rather clever once you got used to it. I don't think it was ever particularly hard (I can't think where you got stuck) but it was unforgiving. BioShock 2 was better written but didn't quite manage to be as good in terms of game play. I think it had better set pieces, though. I think it was a more emotional game, particularly due to Eleanor Lamb (who is awesome). BioShock Infinite has Elizabeth's dress. Yussssssss.
Well included in one of the indie bundles I got recently was Cargo! - The Quest for Gravity. I haven't play it much but I had to mention it because it's the trippiest game I've ever played. This is some psychedelic crazy world saving sandboxish adventure game. It's like playing what would happen if weed and magic mushrooms had a child, and then their child had grandkids with LSD. I'll let rock, paper, shotgun show you just how weird this is: http://www.rockpapershotgun.com/2011/04/22/a-naked-truth-cargo-released-impressions/
Still playing A Valley Without Wind (1) on-and-off. It's a surprisingly good game. Very repetitive, but not so much in a bad way. It's possible to find a group of skills that work for you, and to just use them. Which, well, I am. I'm currently exploring this village I found, and I've worked out (on my own, too! Aren't I clever?) how you can tell if you've been in some rooms before (the icon on the door will change to 'Green' if you've been in) and the same goes for the mini-map, if you've been in a building before the icon goes from 'Red' to 'Black'. And then I walked into a house where each room seems to add just 1% explored to the "X% Scouted, Y% Explored" total. Yeah. That house is going to take me a LONG time to explore. And I've still got a lot of others to do.
Just wait until you get into "deep caves" you can find a map where you get 2 or 3% per area, with one of the areas containing a passage to another series of caves, repeat not until it ends but rather until you decide it's become too dangerous to go any further. Not to mention that each building you find there (because there can be dungeon huts there) can also have a few rooms. Unless you've already found such a place, in which case I was late...
Bloody hellfire. Is there much difference between AVWW 1 and 2? Should I stop with 1 and go into 2? Does it matter? What is 3x3? WHO AM I?!
The cave systems are less... insane in AVWW2. That's because AVWW2 is more of an arcade game while AVWW1 is more of a sandbox one. For one, in AVWW2 there's no free targeting so you have to position yourself to take a shot. I don't know how it looks now (I was busy with other things and thus seldom played anything during February), but some time ago it caused a few mobs to be annoying, though that supposedly got changed for the better. And for the other, in AVWW2 you have "classes" which determine sets of 4 spells you use, instead of being able to use every spell at once depending on which ones you make; sure, you can change classes relatively at will, but it is different.
I see. I think I'll stick with AVWW1 for now. Played more Mafia 2 this evening, then it crashed. Again. Sigh. If any game needs more check point it's that one.
