I'm glad to see monster dialogue being expanded in 104, but if it hasn't been done yet, I have an idea; special dialogue for when monsters go into different states. When monsters begin to flee they could say stuff like: "Can't we all just get along?" "I meant no disrespect!" "You haven't seen the last of me." Or when they activate a trap: "I meant to do that." "Dammit." "You think you're so clever." Also, I was reading Maakies ages ago and a character uttered a series of lines that I remembered and thought would be perfect as monster lines (although sadly I can't find the relevant strip now). The lines were: "You churlish boor!" "You boorish churl!" "You burly choad!" (bonus points if the mobs say this when the player is, in fact, burly) These lines are just suggestions; I have lots more of these in my head, as I'm sure the devs and other players have, so let's see them!
Also, I know it's not really good form to reply to yourself, but... I just thought of an idea for a skill. Not sure how/where it would fit in, but since the monsters can talk I think you should be able to get information out of them. How about a skill that forces a weakened monster to reveal information about the dungeon, i.e. the location of an anvil, or zoo, or shop.. or maybe the monster reveals a weakness in monsters on the same level/of the same type, represented as a small debuff to those monsters. Maybe the skill can fail sometimes, and the monster can lie to you. Just a thought.
+1 to stoo's suggestions They could also say things like: "Lutefisk for the lutefisk god!" "I'll soak your meat in lye!" "Lord Dredmor protects!" "For Lord Dredmor!" "I'm so going to get a raise!"
@Marak - Yes, that's why the first line of my post is "I'm glad to see monster dialogue being expanded in 104, but..."
I'm glad to see monster dialogue being expanded in 104, but I wish they left out the tacky Portal 2 reference. Might as well add 'the cake is a lie' too and call it a day.
Look at you, adventurer! A pathetic creature of meat and bone, panting and sweating as you fight through my dungeon! How can you challenge a perfect, inmortal arch-lich?
Hm, I have wondered why they said that. Played Portal 2 but it doesn't click for me. In all, I love 90% of the new things they say. Some less, but hey what you gonna do. I do miss some of the old ones that now come along much more rarely, like "your mother was a radish" or "i hate you so much". I am almost happy with the monster up to a point to let them live when they say that now if only they did the same... but no, force me to kill them
