And he also has a value that will eventually exceed any other material we know of. Balloons are a waste. There is a finite amount that will be impossible to replace once depleted.
Then again, we can always send the complainers onto the Sun to gather more. They aren't likely to succeed (nor to return alive), but at least we can.
If the value of helium and fresh water raises high enough the likely result will be nuclear fusion becoming economical for the production of those two (the heat can be used for desalination and power generation).
