Gold upgrade is simply "You have the civ V base game. You want to have all content in the Gold edition of the game. We will sell it to you for less, as you already have the civ V base game".
Replayed through Mirror's Edge. In one sitting. Man that game is great. There's something about it that always gets me. It's also like the opposite of modern games. It has zero progression, is purely about the story and exploration and you despise fighting when you have to do it.
That's how it's intended to come across, I think, but they didn't make it avoidable enough nor did the combat system work too well anyway.
I rather liked it, it was okay. Battles too. But it was long ago that I played it. I was annoyed at the hacked speedtrials though
Played a few visual novels last night. I'm usually REALLY not into that genre due to my dislike of Badly Written Romance, but both games were lite-to-none on that and pretty well written. Had a surprisingly good time. Other stuff I've been playing over the last month: PC: Super House of Dead Ninjas (awesome, if repetitive) Ittle Dew (Awesome. If you love zelda style puzzles buy buy buy) Rogue Legacy (Super good. best rogueish game lately.) Hitman: Absolution (Frustrating. bad level design.) Antichamber (Amazingly good. AMAZINGLY GOOD.) Starseed Pilgrim (Confusing. yeah. Basically that.) Assassin's Creed 3 (Decent?) iOS: Deep Dungeons of Doom (Cute) King of Dragon Pass (Phenomenal, if imposingly complex) Elder Sign (Boringly simplistic) Ravenmark (Frustrating but well-made) Agricola (Fun but tough) Badland (Pretty but simplistic)
Still playing Warframe. Taking a breather from Borderlands 2, will return to it(lots more content for me to go through). And started playing Doom & Destiny, which is a very nice SNES JRPG style game with roleplaying nerds as the "heroes" and lots of references and subverted tropes, fun writing and nice combat system, with equipable abilities(class locked) using a point system, turn based combat with a time-line que system where speed matters and you can see what the turn order is. I'll highly recommend picking up the http://www.indiegala.com/ bundle, $1 seems to be the minimum price, and that gets you Doom & Destiny(and 2 more games), worth it just for Doom & Destiny. Also playing Shadowrun Returns, not gotten very far but so far so good. Also due to the way this game is built, there's potentially unlimited content, as players can make their own campaigns and make them available to others, I expect at least dozens of decent campaigns will pop up over the next few months.
...........the Secret World has still completely eaten all my time XP Which is kind of unexpected because the last MMO I played (not counting Diablo 3 which sort of wasn't) was Asheron's Call and I'm pretty sure I never got past level ten.
Ittle Dew Cutesy indie semi-RPG thing that's in the vein of Zelda and... umm... Binding of Isaac. And it's pretty hard in that it puts you into frustrating situations and then laughs at you. Oh and every puzzle is block-related, many of them being one of the most irritating and pointless kinds - sliding block puzzles. I hate them almost as much as I hate the now-rare Tower of Hanoi puzzles. They are SO frustrating and currently there's basically no walkthrough available for Ittle Dew (unless you watch LPs), so it's kinda easy to get stuck. It doesn't help that the hint system is beyond useless and whilst it's intended to be humorous, when you're stressing over a puzzle or a boss fight its condescending attitude is the last thing you need. Remember Me I liked this when I first played it. I picked it up again tonight after putting it down earlier due to being frustrated with a fight. I'm now very frustrated with it. The combat is too fragile. It's a potentially elegant, flowing system, but the game essentially does all it can to make sure you can't flow. Enemies break your combo, some enemies require you to use the environment, breaking away from the combat for a split-second to activate a light or something, and so on. You get in a flow and then BAM you've lost it and you're getting your ass handed to you. It certainly looks and sounds good, but it doesn't play particularly well. Defender's Quest: Valley of the Forgotten One of the best indie games ever, even if it can be stressful at times. DotA 2 The person responsible for the matchmaking system should be shot out of a cannon into a vat of raw sewage. And that's putting it politely.
Managed to get into the beta of Card Hunter. Pretty freaking badass, even if there are pretty significant balance issues and it's pretty hard. It is in beta, after all. That's sucked up like the last two months of my life. I'm trying to shake free. Thinking maybe I'll finally get around to coding up the final, 12th skill of CES at some point soon.
So, speaking of Card Hunter beta, I just got an email from the ppl that has 3x Beta Keys in it. If any of y'all want in on this, send me a PM. I got three keys ready to go.
But I want you to rant! Why would anyone be enraged by f2p? Or do you mean p2w? Honestly, the only thing about the whole system that's ever annoyed me is the "Club Reward" cushion thing. Other than that, it's been pretty low-key and clearly non-necessary to spend actual money. Granted, i don't multiplayer much, so if that's the issue, I'm probably not aware of it.
Assuming they haven't changed it until I quit the game in a huff: * The club rewards harrassing you AT THE END OF EVERY SINGLE LEVEL. * The ability to straight up buy loot chests with pizza. Both of these are dealbreakers for me. The 2nd is actually less offensive because it's merely an optional pay to win. As long as the game isn't balanced around them, cool. But this fucking club reward shit? EVERY LEVEL. "Hey look at what you could have! Look! Look! IF YOU ONLY YOU SPENT MORE MONEY." I don't need, or want, that crap. I am incredibly tired of free to play games constantly poking and prodding at my wallet and ruining any sort of immersion or enjoyment I could be getting with constant "hey! hey! hey! hey! SPEND MONEY." I am done with it. About two months ago I purged every F2P game off my iOS device and have been nothing but happier for it. Playing games that offer a complete experience for a single price is, flatly, more enjoyable and less stressful at all times. I don't miss their absence. While I would love to go back to playing Card Hunter, I refuse to engage in an experience that is fundamentally based around shaking me down for money at the end of every single level. It's not worth it. In the meantime, I have about 30 new steam games that simply offer an experience without expecting anything more of me. I am more than happy to continue playing them and never touch Card Hunter ever again.
I have to agree with Moom on that particular game's f2p. Though I don't really mind most f2p games these days (mind you I don't play phone ones so I know that's already skipping the most p2w ones).
Well, it's pretty much like getting another Fi from "Legend of Zelda: Skyward Sword", only instead of getting "advice" you keep on hearing "spare a dollar". I can see why those not on Buddha's level would lose patience.
