I don't know what I am supposed to even do with this right now. Sell it, or keep it. Floor One. FLOOR ONE. I drank from a fountain in the room right next to the shop and found this thing with the message "You find something in the fountain." This thing is worth over three million zorkmids and has some massive stat bonuses. WHAT AM I SUPPOSED TO DO?!
If I were you I would make it even better with loads of krongings. You could also turn it in for a large lump sum of EXP with It belongs in a museum.
No matter how much XP you get, you'll still only get one level. Don't museum it. Wear it, and beat things to death with your fabulous jewelry.
"It Belongs in a Museum" gives you a pittance of experience -- yes repeated use can give you significant amounts over time, But that minor advantage is far outweighed by the advantage that you get from actually finding great gear like the crown. Then again, I've never been as enamored with "It Belongs in a Museum" as some others have so I'm definitely biased. I never find myself deep in the dungeon with a need to grind levels. More often, I find myself deep in the dungeon needing better gear.
Yeah, wear it. it's worth it for several floors for the alone, let alone all the other stuff. Money isn't an issue; good gear is.
Where did money come into this discussion? I don't think that anyone here is convinced that either money or exp is bad. He wants to know what to do with such a great item. Money is good, exp is good. But guess what? If you wear the darn crown, you'll get both the money and the exp because dying is the only thing standing in your way of that, and the gear gives you the most immediate improvement of your circumstances. Wrapping yourself in zorkmids may be a kind of fashion statement, but it's not going to stop the monsters from killing you. If you do happen to find something better for sale by Brax, by all means, upgrade. Later on, do whatever you want with it. use the Tourist skill to eat it, if you wish. Or place it in a very special place on a very special island for the diggles to sneer at in jealousy. But for Krong's sake, wear the thing for now or we'll poke you with soft cushions and make fun of your eyebrows. Look at it this way -- if you wear it and die, well you would have died anyway. Sure you would be buried with tons of wealth, but what fun is that for a corpse?
Well, sadly what ended up happening was I forgot about a mysterious portal that was in the middle of the path, so while I happily skimmed across the first floor moving towards a staircase down to the next level, I stepped into it. So the rarest jewelry in the universe is now sitting on a dead corpse in a mysterious dimension that nobody will find again. Maybe the fountains just draw things from those dimensions and that's how I got it in the first place.
Yeah I REALLY hate stepping on a mysterious portal early game. Fountains giving good items is one of the best things about early floor luck. Wish the Lutefisk God was so generous as fountains.
I'd say there are two good option of using this item. Either sell it and don't worry about the money for the rest of your life or use "This translation is all wrong!" on it until it becomes something useful.
