Capitol city is the city that hosts the capitol.building, and it isn't necessarily the capital city (it very commonly is, but it does not have to be). It's just that simple. No idea why exactly is is used here, other than the fact that it might be the preferred choice for Gaslamp Games people or a base for some joke.

Maybe the faction that wanted to name it Capital City were lined up against a wall and shot...

This will be the first time I'll buy an alpha/beta game since the betrayal of Notch.

  7. Best. Update. Ever.

Well, until "Alpha release date annoucement", at least. :D

Um, what *is* the betrayal of Notch?

No idea, but it probably has something to do with Minecraft.

It's when some MC fans turned their backs on Notch for daring to hand off his project to other people in his studio, I think.

That would be a good guess. But then again, considering what Notch did pretty much amounted to “I have no idea where to take it now, this guy has an idea, so I'll let him take the ride instead of letting it stagnate”, it's a bit silly to call it a betrayal.

Guy admits he's stumped, gives project to other people who have ideas, is lambasted.

    The fuck, world?

Nope, no hating a studio for taking one more man in the band.
He just stopped caring about a project he seemed to enjoyed very much. And that went out a little time after releasing the v1.0.
But I don't want to start an argue here, facts can be read in the changelogs after all.
All I wanted to say that it stopped me from believing in other "alpha access if you buy the game" projects". I felt nothing could give back to me the lost trust.
But now I sense something really big: it's the love behind a labor. Something that's shouting "try me, I worked to be good" in my ears. And something that's coming from guys that I already loved for something they made.

Don't forget about Dungeons of Dredmor, Gaslamp Games guys. But work hard to make this new Clockwork Empires the cool guy in the town, I trust in you!!!

Then again, I know that with almost every update quite a noticeable amount of people were laying it onto him.

With that happening, people stop caring. When they stop caring, they stop having inspiration. And when that happens ... it's either passing the torch or letting the fire be blown out.

I do agree the whole things is controversial. And it's not easy to even discuss it if we want to avoid fighting and all that. All in all, Notch could have persevered, he shouldn't have cared about people who complain all the time and instead focused on those who don't. He just happened to care about the complainers too.

Am I disappointed? A bit, maybe. But I understand his decision and don't fault him for it, it just happens. Critique can be hard to deal with when the critique we get are people with torches; even if there are people who like it, even if there is more of those than of the complainers, it's harder to notice them than the brigade of torch-wielders. I've experienced similar feelings a few times, and I know for some people they might be really hard to ignore.

Jeb ... well, I don't endorse every single one of his decisions. But it happens, and though any negative feelings I might have held about it are lower in intensity because I am capable of modding out the parts I don't like, I do acknowledge that it's not perfect. But it is, which is still something.

Anyway, I'm stopping now. I wrote it pretty much because I like to write and because those who aren't “in” on the whole thing might find it helpful.

  17. I'm still looking forward to the Steampunk FPS.

  18. My one complaint is that it seems to be lacking poorly constructed and hopelessly complex spreadsheets, gamers enjoy them nearly as much as detailed geological simulations!

You mean actual rocks and sand, or VR visors made of rocks and sand (and copious amounts of instant glue and some magic).
