What do you think of my wacky GR build?

    Necro
    Math
    Dual
    Perception
    Burglary
    Blood
    Vampire

I generally try to "sruvive and level" as best I can ealy on, like most GR builds. Then it depends on what kind of weapons/armor I come across sometimes I immediately start going up nerco or instead bring math up to golen ratio. uusually I go for golen ratio for the moolah and do my best to abuse it as much as possible for mucho gold.

The money can be used to buy "the best damn thing you can equip on this level" as well as lutefisk farming -- buying bolts and thrown weapons, etc..

    Generally it goes-->
    math2
    math3
    necro2
Necro up to death pact. if i have found/bought some necro resist gear by than, I go into blood mage 2, then back to maxing necro. Then I get math 4, and then start filling in the other stuff afterwards. My fave part about the build is its fairly low upkeep --> luteifsk food and most crafting goods. use the best crap you can get your hands on for weapons. Sometimes that means raw damage, sometimes it means + magic/regen.

Looks okay but seems to me like it would have a hard time getting off the ground and killing stuff. And why dualwield and no weapon skill? It doesn't sound like you'll go into melee once you start leveling and you'll have that weapon penalty.

The main reason burlary in is in the build is to help it get to level 2 ASAP. Just be careful and use gargoyle traps when possible if needed. I usually wait until the last possible moment to spend my first skill point. If I get some good drops, I'll immediately go up math to golden ratio. if i get hosed, I put one point in necro and just use nightmare to help out until I've got some decent gear. After the one point in necro, I go back to math to golden ratio, then back to maxing nccro.

I melee a lot. In fact, the main killing is done with death pact after the first few levels. Unless it's a zoo or boss of course. That changes things. But I just melee them to death, save mana, and use it keep bringing in more and more gold. I've had over 30k by the time I'm done with level 3 before. I usually try to stack as much magic power and magic regen while I'm still able to melee and kill stuff without losing life. This allos me to spam golden ratio all the more.

I don't really see a point in weapon skills for the build. They are a waste. the whole point is to be extremely versatile and adapt to whatever gear the random number generator throws at you. You coiuld theoretically specialize in a given weapon type and go through the entire game and never see a decent weapon of that type.

The melee damage for not using the right weapon has been cut to 1/3 now. So not taking a weapon skill is a great penalty. Even a bad weapon with weapon skill is still better than a good weapon without the skill.

I don't know what game you are playing, but the one I'm playing it's about 2/3 damage., not 1/3.

And even though i don't intentionally exploit it, it seems that piercing damage is not lowered at all.

Er, I see the issue. The 1/3 is only related to the main damage type of the weapon. So like a warhammer that has a base damage in blunt but also piercing, the blunt is reduced but not the piercing.

    No, they are all reduced.

The top left number is wrong more often than you think. To know for sure you need to rely on the actual enemy health bar. Some knowledge with the xml and how to modify them also helps.

Don't believe me? A warhammer has 3 crushing and 5 piercing. In your model 1/3 on crushing only would mean 1 crushing and 5 piercing, and so it doesn't matter if you raise the penalty more, you will still be dealing at least 5 damage right? So go into tweakDB.xml, change tweak name="bad weapon penalty" fval="3.00" / to like 1000 (this is the damage divider), and try to kill something with that. Yes the top left corner would probably still show 5 piercing, but you won't actually be dealing that.

Meh. I changed much of it after testing weapons early on. the point of the build as just to survive well and grow powerful fairly quickly and keep blooming late in the game.

    Changed it to:
    Necro
    Math
    Archaelogoy
    Magic training
    Vampire
    Magic training
    Alchemy

Melee and do your best to survive early, transition to being still melee-sih with necro life suck mid game(nuke enemy types with high dodge), then bloom into a great caster late.

i don't need to do this cause I kill stuff fine with focusing on weapons ealry with secondary damage abilities, like spears and daggers. Whatever the math is on the damage, it's much more generous to weapons with secondary damage abilities.

You are the one who should try it.

    Right I apologize.

My test was originally done with Crushing + Slashing. Which was both affected by the penalty.

Crushing + Piercing by contrast, the piercing is unaffected, same goes for toxic.

So this suggest that all "non normal" (not crushing/slashing/blasting/burliness bonus) are unaffected by the penalty. Given you don't have the weapon skill, dual wield is also kinna pointless.
