A build has been uploaded to the Steam internal test branch containing an initial round of save game stuff, and a first attempt at fixing the problems with Unicode on machines where the user name has non-ASCII characters in it. Please try them out if you are so inclined. Note that this is fresh off the griddle code, and therefore probably will not work. Stuff in the internal test branch is in progress code, you should expect it to crash and do strange stuff. If you crash while creating a save, or have a save that crashes on load, please let us know. Send us everything you can - console, DMP, replay, and the broken save itself. Thanks!
/sextuple edit: the save seems to be working now, after the third try, so I put my bug report in the other thread in the bug area.
Dunno if this is the place to post save/load crashes, so I'm posting mine to the bugs section. Xyvik: are you saying you were able to load a previously saved game after repeated attempts?
Aye, the first attempt gave me a Known Crash Bug, OC-1597, so I exited the game completely. Second load also crashed. Third attempt, for some reason, worked just fine.
Yeah, loading a save will still suffer from OC-1597 (for now). So please look at saves that are loaded only after a fresh application launch for now.
This bug has been fixed, by the way. That error message allowed me to track down a huge number of saving/loading related crashes. After doing some coding that resembled peace negotiation between ancient warring tribes, serialization of events is much more robust. Thank you, as usual, for being part of the process. I truly hope that you are enjoying the adventure.
Nice. Thanks guys, now I can give it a real go. Only tried it once so far, and I exited out of the game and then restarted and loaded up my save and it's worked out okay this time. The save was only a few minutes into the game though, will try again after I've put more time into it to see if the load and save can handle a longer played game.
