As of r31a, Axe Murderer Whodunnit is my new favourite thing to do inside CE.

Let potential cultists gather and gossip. When this happens enough, they will all pick up axes and 'The Act of Murder' as their active job.

Frontier Justice the obvious ones. There will almost always be one or two you don't catch.

Your Colonists will Flee from Murderers, even if they're not actively murdering. They know who the Cultists are, even if you don't.

The challenge is to identify some unknown number of secret murderers by the movements of the non-Cult Colonists, and not to Frontier Justice innocents. Click through your suspects, and read their memories. Follow them around their daily routines. Cultists still do chores. Look for the Colonist calmly strolling amidst his panicked comrades.

    Some simple rules:

    1) Cultists will not attempt to murder each other.
    2) Once a murderer, always a murderer.
    3) Colonists can identify a murderer, and will flee, on sight.

I hope r31b doesn't change this too much, now that

(It could perhaps be a little more subtle, but aiming for broad strokes for this series of patches; can make it fancy later.)

That's awesome. How many city builders also let you solve murder mysteries?

I hope I didn't sound like I was down on r31b, far from it, I'm amazed by the rapid turnaround time.

I'm totally excited about the weird little emergent storytelling stuff that generates itself unexpectedly. :)

I hear you; I just had a ridiculous amount of fun getting to about day 15 in the Temperate biome, dealing with the (IMO) still goofy job selection criteria, and then watching half the place get slaughtered by fishpeople. Just insane.

Steakrifle, people! STEAKRIFLE! That sound you hear IS THE FISH GUY'S MIND BEING BLOWN.

Oh, and to bring it back on topic, no axe murderers for me because folks were fairly happy right until they were killed by fish people or starved to death.
