Right now the only possible proc for ranged attacks is crit. It's even possible to get krong enchantments to have procs on crossbows, bolts and thrown items, with the crossbow's activating in melee rather than at ranged, and the latter two doing nothing at all. (EDIT: Actually crossbows do activate in range, I hadn't known this because it never happened for me after a lot of tries) This especially would make ranged much better of a fighting type without imbalancing it much. This would also make it more worthwhile to enchant ammunition that one has a lot of to add a second proc to the one on the crossbow. On a related topic, it may be better that all weapons get procs more commonly from krong or that found artifact weapons could have procs on them. If this and if procs were more consistent but weaker, this would actually make it possible to have multiple weapons to switch between when fighting and make melee (or ranged) combat more dynamic. Of course this isn't the main point but I wanted to suggest that. Finally is ranged ammunition and enchanting it with krong. It should be a better idea to do this. The main thing as a suggestion is that the only possible stats to have on ammunition would be the following: Damage of any type melee power (on thrown items only, would affect the throw), crit, edr, sneakiness (affects the action of the shot, so bolts with high sneakiness would be silenced or something and monsters would barely detect a shot of them) haywire magic power (haywire and magic power would affect procs and on-hit effects from firing the bolt) Because the ammo is limited these would give higher amounts than normal, but not by much.
The expansion will be adding 'Tomes' which provide exotic damage/resistance and come with guaranteed procs. Remains to be seen whether they're worth giving up a sword or shield for. Another idea for ammunition stats would be to make the 'ammo recovery chance' from Archery/Throwing into an actual stat.
That hasn't been true for a long time. I have crossbows that proc lightning at range on my current character. I've also had fleshbore proc via crossbow and knockback proc via crossbow as well. This is all in 1.06, even. 1.08 promises to have fixed the percentage procs on melee attacks via weapon (i.e. Axetar's Rockburst) as well. +1
There can be procs on crossbows, but they proc in melee, they don't proc at range, EVER. I've fired hundreds of bolts with enchanted crossbows and not gotten one proc from it. But if I attack in melee it'll proc almost immediately. Wow. I just fired about twenty bolts but it did proc, sorry about that. Still signficantly less common than melee though. The psycho shove one is amazing on a crossbow. But wow I've tried this so much and never had this happen.
