This game seems to be hard :)

I play on the normal difficult (dwarfish moderation) and my skills are sword, dual wield, berserker rage, artful dodging, perception, master of arms, smithing.
I tought I would deal much melee damage and can take/dodge alot of damage.
But I've been always low on food or potions and most of the time I had to hide and keep pressing space to regain some health.
Now I'm finally stuck in level 7-8. The monsters are too hard. I can only kill 1 monster before I need to escape and press space 100 times again to refill my health.
Most of the time there are to many monster so I can't escape (alive).
So I made a new mage character but it's even harder. With the mage I'm stuck in level 2.

Got some tipps for me before I have to try the elvish noob mode? :D

Something to consider is crossbows. I currently go axes maces golemancy archery dual wield beserker rage and viking magic. I find that if i have the bolts i can reliably put enemies down before they reach me on earlier levels and at least dent enemies on level 5 (The lowest Ive got) while i don pretend to know the situation on 6-7 i can say that a combination of archery and golems seems to work well for me. Perhaps its just i'm good at using them or there's something to consider there. (i play on dwarfish moderation mostly.)

If its too hard for you you can always play on lower difficulty settings. I would probably label it as challenging, which is a good thing.

I'm with you hax. I came up on Rogue (I'm older) and I've played most of the roguelikes. When I was younger i loved the challenge and had beat some of them (not all). But at some point I got to where I just couldn't hack it, or where I cared more about paper dolls and looking cool or else on just cool concept characters and which skills fit the concept (as opposed to which were likely to help me win).

So I find that now, I suck at these games. So I just accept it and play on Elf/Carebear. That way I can level 10-15 times, and consider a character "done" whether I've finished the game or not, then I can move on to a different concept in the same game. :)

I'm just glad they have an easy/softcore and difficult/hardcore option so that everyone can have something they like!
