    Hey.
This are my current stats and equips. I'm on 9th level, Hardcore with Realm Of The Diggles.

Swords, Dual Wield, Berserk, Dodger, Master of arms, Assassination and Blasksmithing.
From which, they are all maxed, except Assassination And Master Of Arms which have 0 points in them and Artful Dodger with only has Knightly Leap.

I'm having big problems atm, because I'm constantly at 10-30 life, and I'm running out of food. What I'm regretting extremely is Blacksmithing. I maxed it fairly soon because I had tons of ingots, but it is proven to be shitty. Besides few helpful armors and steel swords along the way, everything else is crap. Anything I loot is far more superior to anything that can be crafted.
As you can see I have huuuge amounts of ingots, but non of them are usable. I also have 2 full Craft Vending machines from which I can get steel, chalk and a lot of other stuff.

So tell me, what should i do? Should I sell them? Or is it worth having them in hopes of a really OP recipe I could get? And what to do with food issue?

    Thanks

Looking at the crafting recipes on Dredmorwiki it seems that there's only one crafting recipe for blades and that's the Omnipotent Meat Sword, so you're shit out of luck there. There's Embossed Serpentine Armour, if you've got the recipe. I was in a similar position, eventually there's not much point to holding onto your ingots.

The good thing about swords is that you don't need to find a recipe to make some of the better swords.

You can already make the Katana and the Knightly Sword, and while admittedly they are not the best of the swords, you don't have to go find a recipe to get past the Steel or Iron lines (unlike maces).

Well my swords are at least 4x times better then the crafted ones. So yeah.
I also forgot to upload the image :s

Also, what's the shrine "dedicated to no god you know of" for? I found it on 10th floor. It has this weird statue in the middle and two demons head and runes on the floor left and right from it

    Thx

T-Thirty-six poison damage? Holy shit mate, that's insane. You must have some great equipment (and Krong must have been a Good Guy Greg)

It's not Krong, it's the ridiculous Evil Chests. They completely outclass every other artifact source (uberchests, quests, special rooms, krong) because of their massive toxic/necro bonuses.

Especially silly considering named monsters aren't risky at all 1v1 (as long as you don't melee them).

I found similar problems with my 'angry paladin' build... sure I had the plans to The Royal Beatdown and Serpentine armor... but by DL 11 I'd found about 10 imperial boilerplate armor, had gone though a few royal beatdown artifacts (Fing corrupting mobs are a pain in the ass!) and so like you my blacksmithing was utterly useless, but what was killing me was the lack of healing or ranged.

Really of all the crafting blacksmithing is by far the worst as there is not a single category of equipment that you can't find better then you can craft, and I'm talking basic gear, not artifacts. Alchemy remains useful throughout for Booze/Pots/Flasks, tinkering the same for Traps/Bombs/Bolts... but unless you're a throwing spec character that for some reason takes blacksmithing for the throwing item recipes then it really is a dud skill.

Yeah Blacksmithing was just a waste of skill and inventory space. The only good thing from it was iron>steel sword for early few levels and few pieces of armor. But as soon as I started to venture deeper and was bestowed with some treasures, it became utter crap.
Right now I'm about to enter level 15, tho I still need to clear the ZOO in lv 14. All skills are maxed except last 2 in Artful Dodger and all in Assassination which I'm really regretting.
My items are pretty much top notch and I don't think I'm gonna get anything better before facing Dredmor. I've never bought anything from shopkeeper because I always looted better stuff. I got 300k gold, which I'll spend on 5-10 Holy Grenades and imba bolts scattered through out the vending machine. I also have a really good Xbow with imba enchants.
Yet, I'm still afraid. Monsters still kill me too quickly and I don't think I can clear the Zoo in lv 14. I've got Diggle God of Digging Blessing, but I'm probably gonna exchange it for Diggle God of Death (or whatever is it called) Blessing, just because it gives fuck load of resistance.

God some pretty nice armor, legs, feet and gloves are Serpentine with few imba enchantments, the purple ring gives me blast damage and the golden one gives me fuck loads of HP and hp regen. The belt is whatever and I screenshoted the rest.
Got fuck loads of ingots tho ;)

So yeah, Warriors are manageable, but still a lot weaker then Wizards. And I'm definitively never going blacksmithing again.

FYI, the Emerald Encrusted Gold Ring you found is one of the last good reasons to pick Smithing. It's a key part of getting to 1hp/turn health regen on GR difficulty.

    By enchanting it several times?

You need :life_regen:12 to heal 1:life:/turn. You can get :life_regen: from:
    • Shield Bearer
      • Tortoise Maneuver :life_regen:4 : Activated buff, lasts 2 hits
      • Duck and Cover :life_regen:4 : Triggered buff, 20% chance when hit, lasts 24 turns
    • Fleshsmithing
      • Meatshield :life_regen:4 : Activated buff, lasts 5 hits, uses 1:mana: every 10 turns
    • Demonology
      • Celestial Circle :life_regen:5 : Activated buff, breaks on move, uses 1:mana: every 3 turns
    • Smithing
      • 2 x Emerald Encrusted Gold Ring :life_regen:4
So for example, Smithing + Demonology + Shield Bearer easily gets you :life_regen:12 during a Zoo (circle + d&c) and lets you heal outside of the Zoo (circle + tortoise). If you take Fleshsmithing you can heal on the go (meatshield + tortoise).

    Aha. Thanks for that info.
I just cleared the Zoo and it's been 3rd one on this character that had 2 monsters exactly left and I can't find them anywhere. Really annoying. I also tried anti-invis potion and I can't find them.

The problem with zoos in lower levels is that there are a lot of teleporting mobs in them... I had two in a row mess up because of them, one of them was even a double zoo... killed over 150 mobs and no reward because one teleporting Fer went AWOL. Seriously they need to fix that shit.
