I was at Floor 8, feeling absolutely invincible, doing over 100 damage, killing every enemy in 1 hit, had pretty good armour and generally had a lucky run. I then see the Dwarven Express Room and decided if I could get better Shoes since that was my only weakness. First Evil Chest opened, nothing worthwhile. But the second chest I opened, I encountered a Purple Diggle that looked like it was taking The Uncle Oids. Needless to say, this is the furthest i've gone so far so I was pretty scared. Focusing on a more Tanky build, I had 175-ish Hp at the moment and decided to wack it once, to see what it was capable of. I was walking towards my death. Did 79 damage and only took of only about a 1/10 of it's health, he then returned doing 39 damage to me, being blocked. I should have ran away, but being follish, I gave another strike, countered for about 80 damage then he whacked em for another 80, and boom, "Congratulations! You have died." This is what it looked like. http://community.gaslampgames.com/threads/how-scared-should-i-be.1898/
The moral of the story is one which all Permadeath players should be familiar with. If in doubt, nuke it from orbit.
Yeah the evil chests spawn the hardest hitting things in the game, as far as I found, one of the rooms all 3 chests had monsters 2 almost killed me, but I treat those chests with extreme caution and before I even open, I am planning my escape route.
The devs really need to add a chance for named monsters to have 100 or 100 so that magic users can have just as much fun as melee players.
My plan when encountering evil chests is making a maze full of traps, stacking traps on top of traps, and planning an escape route. Then using skills, bolos, or bolts to keep them indefinitely at bay once all the mines/traps have been tripped. Pays to be extra careful. Or play thief, go invis, use lockup and snipe from afar.
I am looking forward to finding one of those anti magic named monsters with a wizard build now Edit: Does stacking traps work, and does it work with spell mines as well?
Muscle Diggles. Oh boy. Hate those things... though, you encountered it on floor 8? I didn't start seeing those buggers until around floor 10-11 on the DLC. Maybe they start spawning on earlier levels in higher difficulties...
That does seem to be the case Rikaru20.. I am noticing alot of stronger monsters on lower level floors (I can't get to the higher floors yet ^^) on Going Rogue.
This is possibly why I'm not going to try Going Rogue if I'm gonna attempt to beat the game... dear god, they're tough even on the later levels...
