Well, not exactly the hardest of challenges. However I did just complete Going Rogue/Permadeath with a mage tonight. Magic Training, Promethean, Ley Lines, Blood Magic, Archaeology, Alchemy, and Astrology. Scored just over 1,000,000 points and ended up #11 on the leaderboard, with the first few being obvious cheaters. I expect to see my name drop from the front page rather quickly. Felt the need to share my first rogue-like victory ever after countless hours spent in Dungoen Crawl Stone Soup, and a few weeks spent on ADOM which drove me mad. I will beat Crawl one day. I have seen Zot, and it will see me again. After reading the blog post about nerfing fireball some more I wholeheartedly agree, I felt towards the end of that run that I had infinite mana, a couple hundred potential health potions sitting around in the form of ingredients that I was too lazy to spend the time crafting, using alchemy I upgraded all of the alcohol I could and collected so that I had hundreds of bottles of +25/26 drinks. With the AI the way it is you can use your wyrmling to grab enemy attention, back up a step, and nuke the whole area. A possible nerf for fireball and other zone leaving effects would be to have them hit you even when you don't step onto a new square. And possibly switch the tree around so that fireball is the last spell on the list, given that both of the other spells are less powerful in general. Now to plan a less cheesy build, or differently cheesy as it may be. I had read that vampirism and the mushroom that grants the vamp effect stack. Do these both also stack with necronomiconomics vampire spell? I wonder how much healing you could pull of keeping both other effects up. Though that does involve the tedious nature of building a mushroom supply. Anyone have any interesting ideas not using Archaeology or Promethean?
Vamp + Necro Vamp should stack (and I think Necro Vamp [and its debuff] stacks with itself) I'll toss out my list of builds that I'll be trying: Dual Staff Necro Mage Necro Counter Attack (Dual Swords, when dual wielding is fixed) Dodge (really random build that gets lots of dodge) Crit Build (Maces) Dots Dots Dots (Golem + Math)
I just finished Going Rogue + Permadeath myself a few minutes ago (I think I moved you down one spot). Here was my build: Staves Vampirism Fleshsmithing Necronomiconomics Blood Mage Mage Training Ley Walker Necro is definitely a fun path to take. The rank 6 spell is unbelievably good.
Im starting a similar chara in going rogue, and i'm having a whale of an easy time: Staves Vampirism Astrology Master of Arms (this proved useless, could take smithing) Blood Magic Fungal Arts Archeology Level Fungal Arts to 2 in first level. Never die.
