I get to like level 5 without vampirism and its really hard because u need to food to regain. But the problem is that on this level i dont have any food because monsters are really strong, the monster zoo is really my worst dream. So i want ask, do you kill dredmor without vampirism on moderate or going rogue or its impossible? Thanks.
yes, I used Flesh-magic for heals basically converts mana to hp 1:1 12 hp heal for 11 mana, get your mana regen up to 8 and you're golden. Just won an all melee doing that
You're doing too much melee. If you're having trouble surviving now, it only gets harder and more grueling as you advance. Try going for more "free" damage (free meaning you don't get punched in the face): crossbow, traps, nukes, summons.
I beat Dredmor on rogue with a swords guy, no vampirism. I did use lifestealing mushrooms but I could do it without them.
Hard being =/= possible to die without any chance of surviving. The game was fairly challenging at times, but there are quite a few escape options with overpowered knights leap + a knit tissue heal (and later vanish)
and your damage escalates faster than monsters HP rises, once you pick up a couple good weapons and you start oneshotting stuff or two shotting it becomes much easier
@Greg72: that's like saying that using cover in an fps is dumb because you can just turn on godmode instead. Anybody can derp around and kill Dredmor on any difficulty if they cheat with bugged archaeology weapons. If you play a legitimate game, you can't spend much time in melee range past lvl 7 or so, even though you will need 3-4 turns to kill anything. Enemy damage scales up quite fast, while damage reduction barely scales at all. In fact, I consider vampirism a handicap after a certain point because your healing will get outdamaged unless you have some way to stun or prevent counterattacks. I know there are probably some people who have taken unarmed/vamp right to the end, though, so I wouldn't mind eating my foot on this point.
He didn't mention using the archaeology cheat at all. Really it just sounds like you made some poor choices, be it items or skills. Reducing enemy damage is extremely easy. I did two melee playthroughs and both times monsters were hitting for pathetic amounts (often 0, 2 or 4. Highest was witchys with 8 piercing damage). Only exceptions are bosses, big blues and arch diggles. With a vampire it's quite easy to lifesteal way more hp than you lose with a magic power staff/robe/hat/shoes. For a non-vampire character you can use lifesteal mushrooms or the fleshsmithing or psionics heals. Also in case this wasn't obvious you're not supposed to fight more than one monster at a time. Keep items with resistances and swap them accordingly (ice and fire are the most important). You shouldn't melee arch diggles without stunning them or use your weapons ranged attack, magic or bolts. In short - if you're having trouble with melee you're doing something wrong.
