Much like the rewards of rogue games of "Never drink a potion", "Go naked" and so forth, add options which you can select pre-game that limit your choices either directly or indirectly. Perhaps even options to not allow certain spawns, or to spawn harder monsters, or no artifacts allowed, or crafted items only allowed... Obviously these would allow one to gain extra points for their score.
They should be voluntary, and up to the player to enforce - however, the game should keep track of them for you, like maybe a new page on the esc menu screen that says things like "You have never drunk a potion" or "you have never bought an item".
It would be cool to have some kind of "challenge perks" you can activate before starting a game. Would add a lot of replayability and an excelent chance for achievements.
These are the sorts of things I'd like to see the achievement system do. Rather than "Kill X bad guys" or "beat the game on X / Y / Z difficulty," why not come up with some achievements that add replay value by giving extra goals?
But I don't think there are any rewards in rogue games for not drinking a potion, or go naked. The only reward is that you did it. Unless i missed something in one of Angband's updates. They're optional self imposed challenges, something I'm fine with, but I think it should be up to the player to do them.
Yeah, it should just be noted somewhere that you did it, there shouldn't actually be any in-game enforcement. Voluntary codes of conduct are just that - voluntary.
Oh indeed, the self imposed challenges is what I mean, however it would be nice if it simply didn't spawn certain things or at least let you keep track of various optional challenges during the game (only food you eat is cheese). Of course no bonuses or awards given except for score bonuses after finishing.
