Launch from Steam fails with exit code 254 on Mac OS X

    Having just purchased Dungeons of Dredmor about 24 hours ago, this is only roughly the fourth time I've tried to launch the game (after having successfully played it for several hours), but after the "Preparing to launch" dialog in Steam disappears, the game never actually starts. This is under Mac OS X 10.5.8.

    In /var/log/system.log, I see:

    Jul 30 11:49:10 XXX [0x0-0x4f34f3].com.valvesoftware.steam[12048]: Game removed: AppID 98800 "Dungeons of Dredmor", ProcID 12403

    I have no idea where to begin looking for logs of what generated that exit(254) back to launchd.

    Any thoughts?

    I have now "verified integrity of game cache" in Steam, then deleted and redownloaded the game, and it fails in the same way.

    ... and rebooting cleared it, so presumably a problem with Mac OS X 10.5.8's launchd, not with the game or with Steam.
