Are megaprojects still planned? Are they going to be predefined special buildings, similar to great wonders in Civilization, or are they a creative combination of different machines on a large scale, similar to megaprojects in Dwarf Fortress? The latter is certainly more interesting. One player built a working calculator in Dwarf Fortress: http://dwarffortresswiki.org/index.php/User:BaronW#The_Almighty_Dwarven_Calculator
I dunno, though from what little i have read it might be number 1. IE unique special large projects. With the potential to go very wrong. Like some sort of Mega factory. or a Floating city in the sky held up by balloons, which shall be named Columbia
I believe it's DF-style mega projects, with pipes and larva and pumps and orphans and hats and fun and imaginations.
I´d guess it goes like every other building in CE. You choose which megaproject you want to build, so the "role" of the project is predetermined. But you can choose the design and add modules so they look different evey time. Wouldn´t make sense to give oyu the ability to influence every little shack, but not the megaprojects you truly aim for.
I always thought it would be fun if a megaproject project was procedural or random. So you tell your colonists "Build me a megaproject of awesomeness so my name shall reach to the heavens!" and *insert game time here* later you find that they built you a giant auto-milking cow farm...that decides people milk is better. And now your female colonists are mysteriously gone. And you have to wonder how they thought that would be a worthy tribute to you.
Maybe. or maybe if we recall the tale of shiveringhope. And the Megadrill of rare and bizarre materials. Perhaps that was an example of a mega project ? Or just one. IE something laid upon your shoulders from above. But basically some grand scale project. Like say a huge mining drill.
Of course! I completely forgot about Shiveringhope (which is odd, as it inspired my fan fiction...). Megaprojects foisted upon your shoulders from above is a fun idea. Perhaps there are options, like mini-quests: build this drill for the Motherland and receive Gear Points, or refuse and suffer the wrath of a million Mad poets being unleashed on your town! And then megaprojects you can initiate yourself. Interested times, indeed. I'd love to see a combination of ideas on this.
