Day-To-Day Work Logs and Woot! Engine Stuff!

Discussion in 'Clockwork Empires General' started by Nicholas, Sep 19, 2012.

  1. Will we be able to levy natives into our armed forces? These would be akin to Indian Sepoys, African Askaris or Russian Hiwis.

On the subject of indigenous populations, can they join our colonies and become citizens? The player would presumably have to make an effort to establish communications with them, then convince them of the benefits of Progress.

  2. So can we expect sabotage, treachery and ambush to be vital tools in our arsenal? If supplylines are important, then cutting or at least imparing the enemies' will be very useful... And this is where native troops would presumably be very useful! Nothing like unleashing tentacled horrors on your enemies, am I right? I'm also envsioning glorious trench-war, and some form of artillery placement, and bayonet charges (which would probably be Perfectly Safe) and Steam Knights dropping down from zeppelins Under the Cover of Night, and so forth.

Your reference lacks ammunition crates, MOOM.

Because the tortoise in the blog post is fully supplied.

  6. Can we weaponize the tortoise into a walking (be it slow) weapons platform? :)

    Interpret this tag for US:

micah writes things that nobody can enjoy

    My guesses
    A) The things he writes are all infastructure, no art or gameplay coding.
    B) The things he writes don't break in interesting ways
    C) (I am wrong, and you tell us)

    Add to it this:
    D) He writes game-play elements which cause suffering.
    E) He writes various things but none of it is in the game and nobody told him.

A solid A. Micah has been doing huge amounts of backend and networking coding and in general is in charge of Doing Things That Are Really Important But Really Boring To Talk About.

I think you can add "For People Who Have Not Sold Their Soul To The Great Processor" in-between "Boring" and "To". Because, while it is not the most interesting thing ever, it is quite a distance away from being boring for people who know anything about it and dabble with it on a daily, or even "weekly" (as in "as a hobby after a week's worth of work"), basis.

Wait... does that mean I am "nobody"? Because I can enjoy this stuff, which would either invalidate the tag or make me into a "nobody".

You could always petition Nicholas for a Micah post if you really want one, I guess? I dunno that we get too technical with blog posts here since they're supposed to be mildly entertaining, but who knows.

Sounds like you guys 'enjoy' micah's work. 'Nobody' might be the too strong a word here as really it is referring to none of us public (rabid fans) as it is used here.

After watching the interview from (i think?) GDC with Daniel, Nich, and Dave, and realizing how awesome daniel is without really getting much to know about him, I really would like it if Gaslamp threw together a profile/bio page for each of the people. Nothing fancy, something simple with a picture, a brief background of whatever they want, and what they do for the team.

    How about that?

Yes please, i really like the page on Valve's site where you can learn about most of the key people working there.

  16. This is something I've found I wanted with a lot of game developers (especially small ones), because like, it's a lot easier to be like "wow this company is really cool" if it's not just a faceless logo or a disembodied name on the credits page. :p

IDK it's certainly something I'd be interested in.

(Also it makes me feel less bizarre for being a person who's stuck in bed a lot and spends her time designing video games for fun but whatever :p)

I'd also probably be somewhat interested in the infrastructure stuff but I'm weird (see by last paragraph :p) but I can totally understand not saying much there because, geeze, it's like, super important stuff but so Not Flashy.

(Also I said this in a comment on the blog post, but like, thank you for getting rid of the red outlines--even though I played with colorblind mode and they were blue for me, just. The red outlines were SO HARD TO SEE when I did have them on >.<) (For the record: the variety of colorblindness I have means red can look a lot like black, so you can probably see how that works out >.<)

I don't think it is, but heck knows, maybe you are right with that assumption.
