First attempt to run I got game icons with a completely black game window, no response and crash. :(
After restarting and setting all graphics options to minimum I managed to get the game going but at around 3fps.
Didn't expect much joy from this laptop, but it does run plenty of games on low settings. It is promising that it starts at all, hopefully with some more graphics options and optimisation we might get it going. Not complaining, just hoping this info helps.

3fps on lowest quality on this machine:
    Intel Core i3-3227U @1.9GHz
    6Gb RAM
    Intel HD Graphics 4000
    Windows 8.1 64bit

Off to try it out on my much more capable desktop and hopefully join the fun.

Intel HD 4000 graphics are not officially supported for this first round of Earliest Access, but we'll be coming back to it. Don't throw your laptop out!

  3. I've played for nearly 2 hours now and my current feelings on CE is 'Oh god everyone is starving". It's fun and I'm enjoying myself but I do wish that in the future there's more of a tutorial for new players because jumping in and knowing nothing about the game is a bit rough, also food seems a bit hard to produce at a fast enough rate to keep my colonists alive at the moment, perhaps I need to try for bigger farms but I don't see my colonists going to the kitchen and using the ovens to cook their auroch steak they just eat it raw.

My favorite feature is the "Load Replay" feature, get to see all the stuff I missed while playing. Thanks!

Nevermind, I am an idiot. I thought my driver was updated, when in fact it wasn't. Updating the driver fixed the terrain.

    Back Again!

Tried it on my ageing yet reasonable desktop with much better results. Runs fine, if a little bit chuggy ~20fps. Graphics are still beautiful with settings at minimal. Shadows have always been this machine's enemy, at lowest setting they still look soft and detailed which I suspect may be impacting on performance. Time to start playing.

~20fps on lowest quality on this machine:
    Intel Pentium(R) Dual Core E5400 @2.5GHz
    4Gb RAM
    NVidia Geforce 620 GT 512Mb
    Windows 7 64bit

Not sure if bug or working as intended but this lone fishman just killed all my colonists. He showed up about 3 minutes into the game and apparently my soldiers were too busy hauling things to kill him. Terror set in and my remaining colonists gathered on the stockpile for some reason and he killed them all one by one.

Here he is in the midst of his rampage:

Definitely hilarious, but also slightly annoying.

I've also encountered the exact same bug as DrSleepless.

The steam overlay obscures the start button in the launcher for a few seconds. Was kinda surprised nobody had mentioned it. Also, dead people still have fleeing as their job despite being dead. And shouldn't executions be of a much higher priority than talking for soldiers? Right now they stop massacring my loyal subjects to have a chat with one of their upcoming victims.
    -Edit-
Woohoo, even more complaining to do ;P
The execute colonist icon really does look to much like a close screen icon. You learn pretty quickly that you shouldn't press that button too often, but it shouldn't happen by accident in the first place.

    re. the Steam overlay:
Oh man, that. The lower right is such an obvious place to put the last thing one reads on a page, too. I remember having this same problem in Crusader Kings 2 and not being able to start the game because the start button was entirely hidden. ... we'll have to see if there's anything we can do. Worst case, can move the button, but I don't really want to make the launcher bigger.

    Gossip vs. doing work/executions:
We've basically got to tone down people gossiping on the job, it is indeed a problem when there's Important Work to be done. Noted!

    Frontier Justice Icon:
Yeah, that's a placeholder. I've got a note somewhere to do a better icon for it.

  12. it is running very slow for me, but i decided to try it out slow any way, my first thoughts are that i don't really know how the whole overseer/laborer thing really works and how/if i can manually promote people, but it didn't really matter too much because it worked fine with just alternating to choose skilled or many people to join me colony helped.

i think the UI could do with a forage, chop and a clear button which would use a drag selection to drag a square to assign things to be foraged, chopped and cleared, i think that would be easier than clicking on individual trees or mushrooms etc.

i don't know if there is a way to hunt but if there is i couldn't figure out how, i had dodos and oxs (or bulls or whatever) cluttering up the place that i would want to kill and eat but i couldn't.

i found it a bit weird that there were places i couldn't build on for seemingly no particular reason, it looked like flat ground to me, maybe there should be a flatten/smooth ground command to i could build on those places.

the path/road system seemed a bit wonky to me, and people didn't really use them anyway.

when supplies are dropped are they teleported in or do they actually have a parachute drop? i couldn't tell, a drop from a steampunk air balloon would be cool and assigning a drop place would be good.

but it does clearly look like it will be fun and as an early early access i wouldn't expect a complete/stable game so i am happy i bought it :)

Forage, etc actually does select other nodes nearby, we just need to make that clear I think.

Flatten ground is planned for sure.

For hunting, you go into work crews and enable the hunting job (disabled by default).

Supplies are teleported for now, same with immigrants.

  14. yeah i got that it selected things near the one you selected, but i think it would be easier to select areas rather than having to click on individual items and then selecting forage etc. or even if it wasn't an area selection mode a forage etc. mode where you just click once on things and it would automatically forage would be good.

    and thanks for the tip

I just want to thank everyone at Gaslamp Games for making this a very enjoyable first day of earliest access. The game looks great and is fun to play and everyone at GG is listening and helping. So thank you!

Really excited about the future of this game, $30 well spent in my opinion.

Hey, just thought I'd throw my thoughts in. I agree with some of the other posters - this is extremely early access so I'm really not sure what is design and what is simply unfinished - but I'll comment on it anyway.

    1) Graphics are beautiful and works like a dream on my machine. One or two CTDs but they didn't seem connected to anything in particular so I assume it's just an minor bug.

    2) Customisation of buildings (which presumably is at a very early stage) is fantastic.

    3) Whenever I click my soldiers to rally (which is the main solution it seems to Fishmen), the rally point markers don't disappear.

    4) My biggest problem right now is that controlling your people is very difficult. I'm aware you aren't meant to have direct control but at the same time assigning jobs is really difficult. I'm not sure if I'm just being stupid and missing something, but right now all I can do is turn on or off what individual work forces can do. I can't assign certain people to a particular workshop or prioritise certain tasks, which means I just get a huge amount of idling whilst one person every now and again makes a plank which all the other projects require. It's the same situation in the kitchens - nobody becomes the cook so to speak. I'm really sorry if I'm missing something, and if someone could tell me how to assign tasks that would be great, but at the moment it's really hard to manage your people.

    5) Farms have this strange graphical glitch if you make them too large - part of them warps through the terrain and the brown texture vanishes, leaving ugly contrasting lines.

    6) More dragging-and-clicking sort of selection would be good.

This is already a really good game - I'm really excited for future updates!

No issues with stability so far. Some minor bugs such as unable to chop a tree in the middle of my commodities.

  20. oh that reminds me, i built a building on top of some tall grass and saplings and they stayed in the building after it was built, maybe they should auto clear those things
