yeah, it also needs to show as checked items you have equipped (eg: having iron xbow equipped and not being checked in the upgrade recipe)
you can push anything, even iron bars or traps, of course since your case is a sword it will only push stuff you can attack :p
I think it isn't an error, but if they add a "only find recipes that you can actually use" I would like it to be "you can only make what you know"

I think just holding spacebar as long as you need would be enough. Simple and efficient.
axes could get a passive at some level where damage splashes to enemies near your target, after all, vikings swing their axes like crazy :p
